Last North Face tent (Stratos) went 28 years until seam seals on rainfly finally surrendered to Washington downpour. The tent has been a well used, rarely abused, member of our family. Sent rainfly and a teenager-broken pole to North Face and they repaired both under their warranty. I told them I would pay and they fixed for free. REI recommended this tent when I returned from overseas military service and they were spot on. We will be adding the Mountain 25 without reservation! Thank-You, North Face. Fly Navy, Roaster
I am a huge fan of North Face products, the company has high standards and it shows. I live in Nova Scotia and the weather can be quite unpredictable at times. I am also a cold sleeper, so its -40c sleeping bag a good 4 season tent. The Mountain 25 retains heat extremely well and has great ventilation with vents in the doors and in the ceiling. I was in a Mountain 25 during a hurricane in 2019 and prior to the storm I ensured that the tent was properly staked out and after 8 hours of strong winds and rain, I was still dry and warm. Hurricane proof and ready for the next adventure. Highly recommend the tent!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is by far my favorite tent for the extremes. It's rugged and weatherproof. It is on the heavy side, so something to consider when packing up for a trip. I'm perfectly content with the weight, because I understand what the trade off is. My primary use for this tent is winter backpacking and expedition trips to areas with harsh cold climates.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this tent in winter mountainous terrain. High winds, deep snow and unexpected weather changes. It's Quick and easy setup and provides security when the conditions push back on you. Not ultra light by any means but really not bad when in a two person team but I also will and have packed it solo. We usually split it up and end up with an individual weight of about 4 lbs. the gear vestibule is large enough to hold the majority if not all of your gear and have room to spare. You have to invest in gear that you trust, I trust this tent and it hasn't let me down.
Product description says: "Glow-in-the-dark, color-coded zipper pulls, dual doors and poled, dual-entry front vestibule make it easy to enter and exit, day or night". In fact current version of the tent doesn't have glow-in-the-dark zipper pulls, just usual knots (previous models of VE25 and Mountain 25 had real glow-in-the-dark zipper pulls). Basically TNF did some simplification of their famous tents, keeping the price high. That is why I rate this tent good, but not excellent.
I have used this tent on several occasions. During a hurricane, i left florida and camped in south carolina. That night hurricane louise reached me that night. Slept thru it, I had that much confidents in this tent. Set up takes some time due to the fact that i am doing it alone. I am also trying to be careful not to damage it when putting the poles in. The hardest part is when the poles are in the sleeves. Getting the tent pole up and correct is the caution part. I had only one time water was a problem. During a heavy rain, it leaked in the vestibule zipper 3" above the ground. The inside spaces are huge to me for a two person tent. I am 5'8" and sit up nicely and move around quite easily. I used the north face mummy bag Cats Meow. Slept in freezing weather no problems. I have bought these items because I trust the brand and have seen the top quality work they have done. Come on,you have ten pockets. ( compared to having 2 in a different brand that cost much more )
In 2010 i purchased the Mountain 35.. a tent I fell in love with - a little heavy but warm in the winter and descent ventilation. HOWEVER... the fly delaminated and when I went to replace it- NF had discontinued the 35... so I bought the 25.. and I love it even more! More compact-easy to set up.. and lots of storage areas make this tent a great little tent. In the winter it keeps things warm.. last weekend we took it to Sequoia and Kings Canyon- temps dropped down to 25... and it felt warm inside. Last new years- spent it in Zion in 10 degree temps and with our body heat - it was very livable. So far after about 4 years its held up very well- seems are nice and solid.. and it doesn't get wet inside due to condensation or leakage. Its been a solid tent for me in cold weather or when I feel winds will be fairly high. I would recommend this tent to anyone who is looking for a nice solid 4 season 2 man tent. I will say its not the most roomy.. but that's because I liked the space in my mountain 35.. and I miss that.
I bought this tent in May for a school camping trip in upstate NY. It was challenging to set up. Definitely do a few trial runs at home setting it up beforehand to get more familiar with where the poles go. Other than that, I loved this tent. It got pretty cold at night and rained and I didn't feel a drop. I also stayed fairly warm. All of my classmates complained in the morning how cold it was the night before and I was really toasty throughout the night. Definitely recommend to anyone using this tent and is nervous about colder temps.
I really wanted to keep this tent. My first impressions were great at first: sturdy fabrics, good stitching, and proven pole structure. I was impressed to see that for a two person tent this has plenty of room. In my opinion I feel it falls short on innovation as the sleeved design makes setup difficult, particularly in stormy weather. It would be nice to see TNF use an all clip design. The part which really let me down was the messy seam tape job done on the corners of the tent. The tape is very unlikely to last one season, and let's be real for a $599 tent this shouldn't be the case. I've experienced first hand what happens to poorly taped seams, the tape lifts and or flakes off, and you get leaks. Sadly the tent was returned, maybe in the future TNF will improve on these details.
I purchased the Mountain 25 for backpacking and hunting. The weight isn't an issue for me. I'm 49 years young and in great shape so, no issues there. The tent is very spacious for one person and comfortable for two. This is NOT your average summer tent. This tent was built for cold weather; however, you can use it during the summer months just without the rain fly and you should be fine. I've been using the Storm Break 3 for years and yes, even during the fall and winter. So, last year in November 2019, I decided to just buy the tent I've been wanting for the past five years and I'm very excited about it. I'll be posting pictures here soon.
