In less than 2 years, these pants developed several tears in the fabric. There are small tears all around the seams, and the worst is a 3" long tear across the butt, making these unsuitable to wear in public at all. I wore these pants to work in an office, did not even abuse them with rough usage outdoors. This is very disappointing for such expensive pants. I called KUHL about the lifetime guarantee, and they declined to repair the pants, saying that 2 years is a normal lifespan for material this light. Other than that, the pants are very comfortable and breathable and have a nice fit. I love the pockets.
I have 2 pairs of these pants which both developed holes in the back pocket from my leather wallet. They're out of warranty by dates, but they don't have very many miles on them. The fabric is meant to be light, but $80 pants shouldn't do this!
I ordered a variety of pants in this style in preparation for full-time world travel. I kept returning each brand until I got these. I needed something synthetic that I could hand wash and hang dry. These pants dry in less than a day. I also wanted pants with multiple pockets that have zippers to deter pick-pocketing. The thigh pockets are perfect for my large Pixel 3 XL phone or a passport. Some pants did not have large enough pockets for an over-sized phone. The small narrow side pockets are handy. The only thing I would change about these is deeper front hand pockets. I settled on these as my single main travel pant and ordered multiple colors.
Love the fabric weight, middle weight, just right. The 4” (at widest part) pleat in the crouch makes it much more comfortable to sit without getting that bunched up feeling. Also the almost hidden elastic band above the knee also adds to the comfort while crossing you legs while sitting. Oh, wait, maybe I should climb some far off mountain to really test them! They are also sharp looking.
These are everything you expect from a pair of Kuhl pants - wonderful fabric, comfortable, a bit stretchy, and with great fit and finish. But...those "stealth smartphone pockets" make me wonder what kind of phone they use at Kuhl. I have a Pixel 2XL and in its case, it just won't fit in the pocket on the right leg (see picture). It does drop into the pocket on the lower left side. But it's kind of awkward to have something heavy that far down on your leg - for me, it runs into the back of my knee as I walk. And with the lightweight fabric, you don't really want something heavy klonking around. I usually use those pockets for a small AAA flashlight, or a Field Notebook and a small pen (the Pilot G2 mini is a great fit here!) These pants also have zippered pockets right below the regular front pockets, which is nice, but it makes the front pockets a bit shallower than usual. The zippered pockets should be good for paper because they go across the front of your leg.
I live in the Bay Area, so my camping trips are in that region. So it is a lot of sun, cool to hot-ish temps, and sometimes scratchy rocks/plants. I take these pants on camping trips and feel completely comfortable in that for days on end. Pockets where you want them, good design so they move with you and don't bunch/constrict in odd positions, material isn't clingy or bunchy, mosquitos don't seem to bite through the material, and the ventilation does seem to work. Only thing I'd like different is some straps on the waist to cinch the pants down without a belt. Summary: when you only want to bring one pair of pants for a multi-day trip, these have been great.
Ordered 32X34 pants and although the pants were labeled that size - both tags and 'stenciling' on the inside of pants as Kuhl does - these were way bigger than 32", more like 34". I've never had problems with Kuhl sizing before. Was this a bad batch from the contract manufacturer, or has Kuhl gone the way of so many clothing companies and are changing sizing to accommodate the expanding waistlines of the american consumer? I can understand that something labeled medium in 2020 would have been a small in 2010, but come on, 32 inch waist is still objectively a 32 inch waist.
Bought these pants in July 2020. 1 year later the crotch blew out. I live in Alaska so they don't get used at all from October- May. Really like the fit and comfort of these pants but they need to last longer than 4 months.
These pants blew me away. The first time I took them out was for a 23 mike hike in the cascades in early summer. Despite the hot sun beating down, the pants kept me cool and my sweat dried very quickly. The taper on these pants is perfect. I hate baggy pants and these are the perfect pants for any outdoor activities: hiking, fishing, shooting, etc. I love them. I will purchase another pair for sure.
I really like the pants, but they are not as cool as I was hoping. Walking around the city on a hot day, my legs were sweating way more than I thought they would in these pants. The material needs to be a little more breathable. Other than that, they are well constructed, and I love the pockets.
