This chair solved two issues for me. One is that I have a chronic bad back (I am 6’ 4” and this works well for my height) and I’m in my 60s and find it very hard to get comfortable in any chair. Two, I had foot surgery and needed to keep my foot elevated all day and evening. I sit in this chair 8 to 12 hours a day, working at home, as well as relaxing evening and find it extremely comfortable. Unlike most gravity chairs it allows you to lock in virtually any position, while many you have to balance yourself. Some reviews say it will not allow you to sit completely vertically, but that is false as it’s easy to sit vertically and lock the chair in that position.
We tested these out on REI’s showroom floor and quickly selected two of these for watching the Perseid meteor shower and do casual star gazing with comfort. We are hooked! Each time the comfort was unbelievable and the adjustable headrest is the cat’s meow. Can lock in place each side but I don’t bother. If you are larger framed, maybe the next model in black would be better. Am 225 lbs, 5 ft 10 and very comfortable. BTW, best way we like to easily carry is to turn folded chair on its side and let one’s fingers rest between the edge of the fabric and the metal pole in the lattice like metal areas and with one’s thumb on the plastic hand rest. Being in the “anti gravity” position for one to three hours each was a joy. Gonna get a lot of use out of these!!
I bought these chairs for a weekend of camping in the desert. We were car camping so didn't need to consider weight or size. These chairs aren't light and they do take up quite a bit of space, but if you have the space to bring them along you will be so grateful to have them! They were wonderful to recline in next to the fire, perfect for admiring the bright stars. They really are so comfortable, and feel very sturdy. I love that I can use the little lever to recline back as little or as much as I want. The added adjustable pillow is a bonus too. Perfect for little naps after a hike, or just relaxing in at night.
My family has been buying zero gravity chairs for a few years now and we have been all trying to get different colors. This was my year to buy a zero gravity chair. When I purchased from the store I should've tried it out then but I didn't. After I got home and put it up to sit in it I noticed how short it was to the ground. The leg rest area does not match up with the chair so when you go to sit up and get up it stops on the ground a few inches out which means you have to do a stomach crunch to get out. Maybe this one was assembles wrong but I will definitely be returning. No on the height and No on the comfortability.
I purchased this chair because it seemed like it would be a great option for a camping chair. I like the chair's ability to recline. Unfortunately, this is all it is good for. There is not a setting to allow the chair to sit in a normal upright position (that, or I cant figure out how to make it do that). This means the chair is always in a semi reclined position and the seat is never flat. If you try to make the backing straight up and down, the seat tilts backward towards the ground and is very uncomfortable to sit in. Also, the lower leg portion is always extended a little, which makes the chair very difficult and awkward to sit down into. I plan to return this chair and find one that offers the option to lean back or sit upright.
The website doesn’t list the feature, but you’re able to ‘lock’ the chair into the perfect position, which is fabulous. A true zero gravity, and not the ones you find on amazon that are just lounge chairs. Throw a Pendleton on it and you’ve got a Lazyboy in the woods.
My friends and I own around a dozen plus of these chairs, and everyone in our camp fight over who gets to use them (beats the heck out of sitting on a log). The only thing on my wish list would be a model for taller people. Our legs hang off the chair, and often the bottom of the frame is less then comfortable.
When trying out in the store I reclined and liked how it felt. But we often sit upright and when I got home, sitting upright was terribly uncomfortable. You know how when your seat back is too forward in the car? Well, that's how the GCI Outdoor Zero Gravity Chair feels, and forget getting up out of it - you'll need help from a friend.
I have had this chair for a year now and it is my go to chair to relax in. I love that it fully supports my neck and head, and the back. It is not a chair you would want to sit up straight in, but one that you would incline the back and relax in. The back incline is adjustable, so if you want to socialize also while relaxing a bit, you can do that too. There is support for your feet also, so they are not dangling in mid-air while you are relaxing. I mainly use it outdoors, but sometimes indoor as well.
This chair was very well built but the design is a miss. I ordered the chair on line without sitting in it. I found the chair very comfortable in the fully reclined position but not in any other position. It is hard to get out of. If you want to set somewhat upright your rear end is too low. Very uncomfortable to sit semi-upright to watch the campfire.
