Adds pedal power & easy to get out of.
I bought a hybrid Cannondale Quick bike from REI. The pedals that came with it were not made for any kind of toe clip. I drilled 2 holes in the reflector on the front of the pedal and added longer screws to attach these. They work perfectly. I brought the hybrid bike for city riding, wanting to be able to easily remove my foot, and adding pedal power. These do it. Incredibly light, they add more up stroke, and forward stroke power to pedaling, without being restrictive in removing your foot. I do not think that they will work well for large shoes. I wear 9.5 men's sneakers and they are perfect.
Too small for me.
I wanted to replace my toe clips with new strapless toe clips, because my shoes were sometimes getting stuck in them. I thought these would work well. They appear well designed at first glance, but they don't work for my feet. They have the same toe depth as my previous toe clips, yet they're designed differently. My foot needs to sit farther forward so the ball of my foot is over the pedal. My foot is ½ inch or more farther back from where it should be with these Eclypse clips, which makes pedaling uncomfortable. These might work well for smaller feet. I don't recommend them for most men. I've got to find another brand to try.
Easy to mount works for well for street use
Had to replace my old strap in clips when one broke. These were easy to mount and hold my size 9 sneakers just fine. Easy to put my foot in and out as needed. I have put in over 100 miles on them so far with no issues. I like not having the straps to deal work anymore.
Good and inexpensive
My family is using these on all city and touring bikes if they are not using clipless pedals. These are not for MTB use so do not try them as it is unsafe for that use (on pin pedals). These used to be very popular 20 years ago. I'm glad they are still available as they are great compromise between ease of getting in and out wearing non-clipless shoes and efficient pedaling with optimal foot positioning on the pedals. They do have a learning curve but a lot easier than the strap equipped toe clips or the clipless pedals. The problem these days is that you are very likely to need to buy pedals to, as most of the current produced bikes came with pedals that are non-compatible. For people looking for such pedals REI sells Power Grips Sport Pedal Kit that comes with straps that can be easily removed so the toe clips can be installed. Back in the day REI bikes were sold with this kind of pedals when new. I still have them working fine after so many years.
For $5 it was worth a try.
For $5 they were worth a shot. Due to making the pedal front heavy I had to try and flip the pedal back and slide my foot in. Sometimes that is easier said than done. If they are hanging they will scrape on a turn and/or dig into the ground. I have a Giant Roam 2 hybrid so its not like the bike sits low. Also there was a annoying squeak when i would were my five ten shoes. I removed them from my bike.
Doesn't fit any bike in my garage
Only $5.00 so why not give it a shot. They do not fit any MTB or hybrid bike in my garage, not even with modifications. All my bikes have stock petals. Cannot attach to Cannondale Trail 5 or Hybrid bike at all. Can be attached to Jamis MTB but will set your foot too close to the crank arm. They don't fit Bontrager pedals either. I gave an extra star because it's only $5.00.
This is my title
Just what I was looking for. On my everyday bike I can wear flip flops or any shoe and the clips keep my feet in place
Bring these back!
I love these strapless toe clips. I use clips on my serious off-road bikes but I use these for the less used off-road bikes. I actually need more but they have been discontinued, bummer!
