Beginners Backpack
I took this backpack on a three day canoeing trip. It went through sand, mud, rain, and so much more but it really did the job. My gear isn’t lightweight yet I was able to fit everything I needed with room left over. Definitely would recommend this backpack because it was very comfortable and has just the right amount of space. One thing that was a bit off was the hip gear, I wish they were a little bigger for support but I guess that’s what you get for getting a lesser expensive bag. Still love it enough to give it five stars though :)

Renn 65 vs. Ariel 65
I have an osprey ariel 65 and was looking to downsize to the renn and save about a pound. Renn was nice, and I was willing to cut back on all the bells and whistles that the Ariel affords. But when I loaded the Renn up with 30-35 lbs., it quickly became evident that the Renn wasn’t going to cut it. This pack tops out around that weight and it showed. Pack didn’t ride comfortably with that weight, shoulder straps pulled down and the hip belt, though situated well on my hips tranfserred pressure to the tops of my pelvis. I think if you are really traveling light, under 30 pounds this pack could work well. I will keep my Ariel 65 for my bigger treks with heavier loads. The Ariel 65 is highly adjustable, supremely comfortable and will carry the heaviest loads. I believe the Renan’s sweet spot is around 25 lbs. of gear. Anything more I would go with the beefier and better structured Ariel 65

Amazing backpack

Such a great backpack at such a great price! I tried on so many different packs and when I found this one I was surprised that it was so cheap! It is so well made and so comfortable, light, and breathable. Took it on a week long backpacking trip in the Smokys and had no complaints! It has nearly every feature of a more expensive pack except for the front stash pocket (which I made up for by running a bungee chord through the loops on the front- fit my rain jacket and pants no problem!). There are also loops on the top that you can run a bungee through. 10/10 would recommend.

Great but for the top pocket

Osprey makes great packs and they are durable and comfortable for me, this one included. I wanted a lighter weight, no frills pack, which this is--the pack is basically one large bag so one needs small stuff sacks inside to stay organized. The large mesh outer pockets are great. My main disappointment is the top pocket which is fixed to the back frame and has such a small opening that it is nearly impossible to easily get into, especially if packed. If you unsnap the top part from the pack, contents fall out and the opening is facing the ground. Osprey you need to rethink this one.

Great basic pack

I bought this pack two years ago as a first-time backpacker. The main pack is basically one giant pocket with top-only access. No bells and whistles there but I can stay organized with stuff sacks. Sleeping bag pocket; top pocket; rain cover included. I’ve taken this pack on 5-day section hikes with a bear canister. This pack has a simple design though it has everything I need and it’s comfortable. No regrets.

Best all around

Perfect for me as a first time backpacker. Plenty of room for all my stuff. I try to be lightweight but am by no means an ultra light backpacker. Idk how people fit stuff in 45 packs, etc. This pack still feels pretty lightweight considering how much space I have. Super durable and lots of nice organizational features. Comes with a rain cover which is nice. Plus osprey guarantees their products for a lifetime. for only $165? it’s a steal!

Mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings about this backpack. I think it's pretty good for the price and honestly it is all I can really afford. That said it does so much better with less weight in it. When the weight in the pack is over 20-25 lb this pack is miserable to carry, pinches my shoulders really badly and I have to stop every mile or so and take it off for a bit. 20 lb seems to be the sweet spot for comfort for me. It'll do for now but I feel like I'm going to be wanting to save up for a better pack soon.

Stripped down in the wrong places

I really wanted to like this pack since it is an Osprey pack that is lighter than the Aura and Ariel. I didn't find it helpful for organization. The lid has only one zippered opening on the lid that can’t be accessed very easily when wearing the pack. The entire lid is a huge open space inside where items easily get lost unless packed in other organized bags. If you flip the lid up with the zipper open all of your items will fall out. The adjustable frame and shoulder straps have fixed button points that limit the range of adjustment. Lastly, there is no stuff pocket on the back. A daylite pack can be attached but I find that having the stuff pocket for jackets, etc. to be way more practical.

Great backpack!

Great backpack at a great price that can carry a ton of stuff! I love the pocket at the top of it and the optional piece of fabric you can strap on to spearate the main storage section of the backpack from where your sleeping bag goes!
