Collects water after 10 minute drive.
Okay so straight forward review here, not a short one. I'll let you all make decisions for yourselves since you're all grown-ups. Also, disclaimer, I do not know if this is a defect or not but if it is I will update this review. Bought this cargo box on a Sunday at the REI 2 hours away from me (closest one unfortunately). I drove home that evening under clear skies and parked my car outside that night. It rained, and also rained in the morning when I drove to work. No big deal, this thing is supposed to be weather resistant. To my disappointment, I opened it upon arrival at work to find four puddles in each corner of the box. I put in pictures so you can get an idea of where the water comes in from. A video as well to display the design a bit and how this design kind of channels the water into the box. To re-test this predicament I drove again yesterday (3-28-19) in moderate rain, 10 minutes, at 55mph or less, (not quite freeway speeds but that's the speed limit where I live) to see if I was hallucinating the first time. Unfortunately I was not, puddles began to form after my 10 minute drive again. These puddles seem to be collecting water from the slits in the bottom of the cargo box that allow the adjustable slides to move for more adjustability for different width crossbars. It seems as though this could be a simple design flaw that should be addressed by Thule or I have something defective. I am buying a cargo box because I have a big dog that takes up a lot of room inside my car. On road trips I need some extra space for gear. On said road trips, it is not always dry so I was looking for something that would be pretty good at keeping water out. A little bit of water never hurt anything but when puddles are forming after 10 minutes of driving I can't trust it to keep my gear dry when traveling. Peace of mind makes me a happier camper than anything else. I also have some decent gear that I don't want to worry about. And honestly, I decided to pay the $500 price tag because I figured the quality would give me peace of mind, unfortunately it didn't. Overall I cannot recommend this box to anyone. It is simply not something I would be comfortable telling someone to buy knowing that they would have to wrap everything in trash bags just to feel okay about their gear in rainy weather. And then, say they forgot their glasses or wallet in a bag they put in a trash bag, they would be sifting through this trash bag filled cargo box to find whatever item they needed. To me $500 should go further. If you need a solid cargo box in a dry climate and you're not too worried about having this thing affected by water in general (although I'm sure those slits would let a good amount of dust and dirt in too) this may be for you. The Quick Grip system they have to quickly install (or remove) the box is awesome, although it too leaves small gaps in the bottom where the elements could potentially get to, they're still awesome. Anyone can install this thing and it makes it so you can take it on and off in no time. It's also very visually appealing I must say. I'll be going for something else and if no high end boxes keep out the elements I will be buying a knockoff and siliconing any gaps that water could enter through. I could do that with the Thule but I don't pay that high of a price tag to silicone the whole thing. Sorry that was so long. All the best on your cargo box search!

I purchased this after returning a Yakima carrier, which has lock problems, as noted in some reviews. The people at Hillsboro, OR Store went well beyond the call of duty, including a 10% discount in the Thule. It’s easy, claw type rack clamp makes it easy to install and remove. It’s ratchet- type closure assures the box is securely installed. It’s rides quite, opens from both sides, and the effect on gas mileage on my small Chevy HHR has been minimal. very pleased with purchase and staff at Hillsboro, OR REI.
Perfect Fit on a Wrangler JK
Mounted on a JK with a Rugged Ridge Sherpa Rack. Rock solid at 70mph and actually decreases wind noise on the soft top. Super easy to install for one person (almost too easy). Width between bars was set to 28". Can't comment on water resistance as I haven't had it in the rain yet. I will be using it for kayaking so most of my gear inside will be paddles/PFDs or in dry bags - no big deal to me. Biggest drawback was actually REI itself as no one seemed to be familiar with add on racks for Jeeps and I was repeated told it would not work. Persevere. Its worth it!
Flimsy Construction, Leaks
First time purchasing a cargo box. Big investment and went with this model because of the narrow width. I was surprised by how wobblily and flimsy the box was, especially in the open position. After even light rain, the front right corner always filled up with water. I came back to my car one morning and the box was gone. I suspect it was popped open and unscrewed off the vehicle. I always felt that it seemed it could be broken into easily. I've seen other boxes that seem much more secure. Even if you put aside my personal story, the leaking of the water alone make it not worth it.
Fits 180 Rossi Super 7
I’ll admit, I got lucky. Product info says “fits 177cm skis” but from the dimensions I thought it would fit my 180’s and it does... along with a pair of 170’s. Very easy to mount on my CX5. And it just barely fits into my garage.
Ideal for extra camping storage
I use this box for 2 different purposes: camping and fishing. Originally I had this box on my honda accord. It was great for storing lighter bulk items like my tent, sleeping bag, pillows, camping chairs, and our duffel bags. For fishing this was a better alternative than using the passthrough from my trunk to the inside of the 2nd row. I am able to store most of my fishing stuff minus 6' and longer fishing rods (for those I use a roof mounted ski holder). I've had this rack for over 4 years and haven't had any issues.
Looks Great on My Jeep Grand Cherokee
I put this on my Jeep Grand Cherokee to keep snow & wet snowboards out of the interior in winter and have a some extra camping gear storage in the summer. Sturdy for what it is. Surprisingly very little noise... the surface is dimpled like a golf ball for aerodynamics and has a modern, aggressive profile and carbon-like matte finish that matches my Jeep's slate blue and matte black theme. I drive it daily at interstate speeds 80mph and heavy crosswinds... I seriously can barely hear or feel that it's there. Light and narrow enough for one person to lift onto/off from the roof when needed. Sport size is also narrow enough so that I can still fit other stuff on one side of my roof rack... a work ladder, a kayak carrier, etc. It is a little taller than some models and since I already have a tall vehicle that means I can't fit in some parking garages.. but that's a fair trade imo.
A bit small, but thats why you choose this one
This one is a bit smaller than other cargo boxes, which makes it ideal if you have multiple things on your roof rack. I drive a Tacoma and have this mounted over the bed of my truck alongside a fishing pole mount and I still have room for a bike on top if needed. While maybe dumb, the reason I am rating this 3 stars is due to the material used. Stickers do not stick to the outside and peel off after a day or two. I was looking forward to covering this with stickers from my travels, but will just have to put them elsewhere. Not bad enough to return, but wish I had gone with a different product for this reason (would have gotten a larger one).
Exceeded expectations
I purchased the Thule Force XT Sport cargo carrier to augment my 2016 Subaru Outback cargo storage. I have been eyeing the Yakima and Thule carriers for nearly a decade and with my growing family finally committed during the 20% off holiday sale. I actually wanted a Yakima carrier but only the Thule line was on sale. I believe this was a good thing as the Thule Force seems to be superior. The carrier performance exceeded my expectations during our maiden 1000 mile round trip holiday adventure. I was particularly amazed by how quiet the carrier was at freeway speeds (but that could also be the sound proofing of the Subaru Outback). It also held a surprising amount of gear for being the Sport size. In any case, I am 99% satisfied with this product and my only regret MAY be that I did not get the XT L size which spans the width of the roof racks. Of course, the first time I need to haul my bike or kayak along with the more narrow carrier I might update this review to 100% satisfied.
Like adding a closet to my studio apartment
I bought this earlier this summer to use as the main source of storage for all my camping and hiking gear after I moved in to a tiny studio apartment. I have a 2006C-RV and built a sleeping platform that is great, but takes up a lot of the storage in the back. Since I take most of my trips with two pups and one other human, this has made the ride much more comfortable. It's also great to be able to access gear while camping or on the road without rearranging plastic bins in the back of the car. It was very easy to install, is relatively quiet even on the highway, and is very roomy. I regularly store two foam sleeping pads, a sleeping bag, a camp quilt, two camp chairs, a tent and tarp, and other miscellaneous gear. I was worried things would get wet, but it has been sitting in the driveway all summer through a lot of thunderstorms and handled wind and rain on the road with no trouble at all. I'm happy I finally bought one.
