I’ve had this tent for a couple of years now, and it’s seriously the greatest thing ever. It’s not the lightest, but i’ll put up with the extra pound of weight that this guy has over some of the other popular lightweight tents out there from BA and Nemo because, structurally, it’s tough as nails. I camped out in a blizzard with sustained winds of well over 40mph in Colorado in this (the forecast made no mention of said blizzard the day before), and she stood up like a champ while others in the same area got blown away or imploded. The liveabilty of the Hubba hubba nx2 is amazing, if you find yourself stuck inside for extended periods. I’m able to put myself, on top of a thermarest neoair xtherm max, my pack, professional camera gear, boots etcetera, all inside the tent comfortably, and still have heaps of room on either side beneath the vestibules. This tent is also not the most affordable, but certainly not the most expensive option. I’ve used this set up well over 30 times in various terrain from deserts, to alpine areas, swamps, seaside, sand dunes, and everything in between, and it’s held up flawlessly. Totally worth the price in my opinion.

Leaks!

Retired my 6 yr old Hubba (which I truly love), bought the 2019 version with much anticipation. First weekend in the PNW and of course it rained, oddly, my hubba fly leaked, specifically at the very top along the seam and dripped onto the fabric canopy of the inner. Upon returning home, I used gear aid seam seam sealant (recommendation from local REI). Following weekend, went out and again, leaks at the same seam only slightly less. I called MSR and they said to seam seal again and/or soak the fly in a Nikwax solution. Took 6 years for my last Hubba to have any issues at all. I spent over $500 on this new and improved version plus foot print and I now have to seam seal again and Nikwax!? Not so much. Will return and move on.

Reliable, well-rounded tent

Been using this tent backpacking for 6 years now. Solid tent, easy to use, quality/durable materials. Not ultralight, but I trust this tent to keep me dry and protected in any condition. Intelligently designed and has the features I need. Extremely happy on the returned value of this investment.

Hands down best tent I've had.

In September I camped on top of Rainier with this tent. The forecast was warm with light wind but an unexpected gale came though. The tent survived and gave shelter through sustained 30kt wind and 40kt gusts. We've done the Ptarmigan traverse, climbed Mt, Kenya, explored the beaches of Hawaii and so much more with this tent. Last week we took it up the Hoh Trail to the base of glacier. The big vestibules are good to cook in. Big liveable space! No it's not the bet tent when it's below freezing and blowing hard, but it will be the job. It's the best tent all summer, corner seasons, and if you want to push the limits, it will hang and isn't going to fail.

Great backpacking, travel tent.

Purchased in 2017 with footprint. Needed a small lightweight tent for backpacking and motorcycle camping. Also use for car camping at times but not the primary use for this tent. Thought I'd give this tent a long-term review for those who are interested in now it held up over time. Definitely a thumbs-up and recommend as a great two-season tent that can stretch into three-season if you have a good colder weather sleep system. Have used throughout the Midwest, Rocky Mountains and Tetons in temps from 20's to 90's and during multiple severe thunderstorms. Staying dry is a must-have and so far I have not had even a drop of water in the tent even during storms strong enough that trees blew down. Tent was fully staked out and stayed solid as a rock. The large mesh panels prevent heat build-up and can take full advantage of a breeze on hot nights. Awesome to leave the rain fly off for great views of the stars when weather permits. More of a two-season tent due to the large amount of mesh. However, I have used in 20 degree night-time temps while solo backpacking when without a buddy to split carrying a heavier/bulkier four-season tent) and during shoulder months when temps could vary widely but just wanted to bring one tent. Stayed warm using a good cold-weather bag, sleeping pad and wearing a light base layer. Two covered vestibules are a great place to keep boots or other that I don't want inside the tent but still protected from rain. After 5 years of regular use, the tent is still fully waterproof, no breakdown/holes in floor, seams, rainfly or footprint. Zippers still work smoothly/easily. The only issue is this year the cords inside the tent poles have lost elasticity - still works fine but will probably restring at some point for convenience. Again, very pleased with this tent and would buy it again, if needed.

I love my Hubba Hubba

I have now tested my Hubba Hubba in the field twice and it is just fantastic. My last trip was to Barrington Tops World Heritage Wilderness in Australia. It is so quick and easy to set up. One night I was in a strong gale and it did not miss a beat. I was also in sub zero temperatures each night and it was surprisingly warm in-spite of the fly freezing. Super roomy as well. Plenty of room for you, your pack, bed and all your gear.

Well designed tent

I was hesitant to buy this tent due to reviews of them leaking but I liked the design enough to try it. I used the seam sealer that comes with it before the trip to Alaska. We were pelted with rain, ended up in a puddle outside the tent, and we were dry, other than the expected condensation that occurs in any tent under those conditions. They pack up great, I love the convenience of the top loading stuff sack. This is a backpacking tent and the material may not be as durable as I would like over time, but the design features are great and it held up well! We bought two for our backpacking trip with the kids, one adult one child per tent, plenty of room.

Don’t buy this tent!

I purchased this tent from REI in 2019. I wasn’t aware of the recall at the time. I live in Alaska and used this tent a few times in nice weather and it worked great. While camping I had an evening of light rain and woke up to puddles of water the next morning. Shortly after I researched the rainfly and learned from a 3rd party company, not REI or MSR, that there are recalls on this tent line from 2019. I aquasealed the tent exactly as MSR recommended and used the tent again on a backcountry hunting trip. Another night of scattered rain and woke up to wet gear from rain soaking through the rainfly. I posted 2 photos below from my most recent trip, if you look closely you’ll see the puddles on the mesh. This is not condensation which is expected in most tents these are pools of water leaking through. To my knowledge MSR or REI have not issued a recall on these tents and you have to purposefully look for the recall. Don’t buy this tent!

Missing my old Hubba Hubba

I was very hesitant about ""upgrading"" to new model NX-2 primary due to the color. I live outdoors, I use a tent ninty percent of the time to protect me from weather, bugs etc...but, due to the heavy use though still in good condition I felt it was time for a new one. Because the old one served me so well, along with many other MSR products I pulled the trigger on a new NX-2 w/ footprint. As I mentioned before the color doesn't suit my life style (stealth set up) so I purchased a lite wt. camo tarp to compliment the set up and thus nollifying the weight savings the lighter new one afforded. The new Hubba Hubba footprint doesn't fit snugly to tent base like the old did, so I have to stake in far more often and the stakes that come with the new tent are simply useless in most conditions, I'm quite surprise they got a green light for production, I use the ground hogs. Unless it's raining or cold I don't use the rain fly so I was bummed that the tent base (tub) went up so high killing any views from the lying position, not only do I like to see my surroundings for asthetics but, for safety. The stuff sack took some getting used because it's not a stuff sack but, after getting in the habit of folding and rolling the tent and fly I'm convinced that I'll have less netting holes to repair due to exposer to pressure/pinching against hard pieces in the sack. I sold my old tent upon purchase of new and will tolerate this one until a more suitable one is research and obtained, Helliberg twice the weight twice the price, say you all have any old Hubba Hubbas laying around trade ya.

Solid tent

You really get what you pay for with this tent. Packability and weight are phenomenal just know that you sacrifice a little bit of toughness for its light weight so be reasonable and take care of it. MSR does not seal its seams from factory, which is fine. I spent a night out in Joshua tree with consistent rain all night and some water was on the mesh of the tent that had came through the fly in the morning so just keep that in mind! All in all it will take care of you and more importantly your back. Great product!
