I work as an aircraft mechanic and often find myself in dark confined spaces. This headlight is great for those situations. It’s bright, lightweight, and the on/off switch is big and easy to find. All 3 modes are very useful; even the red light mode is great for dark cockpits prior to running an engine when you need to see but want to retain your night vision. The mode switch button is a little small and hard to find sometimes. I’d like to see that bigger and moved a little farther away from the on/off switch. Overall, great light. I’m very happy with it and look forward to using it for years to come.
So much better than my Black Diamond Storm. To me the storm was too heavy and uncomfortable to wear. Mine has a seam in the band that digs into my forehead, I was never happy with the storm from day one, I should have returned it right away. The spot 325 is perfect, only three AAA's, very lightweight, nice white light with a great beam pattern that is plenty bright, comfortable, simple and logical controls that don't require a manual to reference. I will be picking up another one as a spare no doubt. I've had ten or more LED headlamps over the years, this one is the best to date.
You would be better off, as far as reliability, with a candle or oil lamp. I have purchased two. The first worked great until after the first battery change. After that it worked sporadically if it would work at all. Stopped working while working at height and in the dark. Five months old. Not good. The second Spot 325 I had purchased as a gift for a nephew beginning work in the same field. It stopped working on the second day. $40.00 per headlamp. I wouldn't even take one for free at this point. I own other headlamps that are years older and one is just a cheapo that I bought at a hardware store. The cheapo beats this headlamp hands down just in reliability for only $19.00
This headlamp stopped working mid-trail in the fog and pitch dark, with fully charged batteries. Some connection inside the headlamp has become loose, as reseating/fiddling with the batteries did nothing, but bumping it aggressively causes it to flicker back to life... sometimes. I have a few other lamps from BD that I love and have had no issues with, but this one somehow was overlooked in the quality dept, which is unacceptable being such a critical piece of gear. That said, having a separate button for the Red lamp, and having brightness memory, are both great improvements over previous models
Bought this after losing my previous BD Spot headlamp. This one is even better! It's easier to use now with the two buttons instead of just the one on the previous model, though it can still be difficult to operate sometimes, especially with really thick gloves. I would find my self still just clicking through until I found the setting I wanted to not always sure exactly when to expect with the next click. That being said I still love and have no regrets with it as it's very comfortable to wear and the brightness is great.
Great little headlamp! It only has a few buttons but it's easy to switch between modes, and even on the lowest setting it's pretty bright. I read some reviews about the older model and heard people were having issues with it accidentally being turned on because it got jostled in their packs and the on switch got hit. With this model, there is a locked mode you can activate where it won't allow the light to turn on even if the button gets pressed. Turn the lock off, and you can go back to using it without having to worry about wasted batteries. I like its functionality and reliability.
This headlamp has great features! It is comfortable to wear and is very powerful. I use this to grill at night (in the winter), find things in the basement, and for camping. It has been a while since I have purchased a new headlamp and now I am completely sold on Black Diamond headlamps. The only negative thing I can think of is that adjusting the light angle is fairly loud with a big click. But the brightness feature and three different colors help a ton. Heck! I even use the redlight to read at night in bed to not bother my wife. This is a great product that has a great balance of power and longevity. You will not be dissappointed in this purchase!
The black diamond spot is a great headlight. The first thing I noticed when I opened up the package was how light it was. As a headlight, it casts more than enough light for most activities, especially for finding a trail at nighttime. You have a lot of control over the power of the light, with multiple settings; as well as a red light which is great so you do not blind someone else. It has a very easy to use (touch) button that makes it easy to achieve maximum brightness, although this function took a minute to figure out, it became very easy once I under stood it, and it was very helpful. Everything that I was able to test worked exactly as I wanted, however I was unable to test the weatherproofness of the product, since every time I used it the weather was nice. Overall, a great headlight.
I was looking for a headlamp and was really impressed with the reviews of the original spot, but saw this was the newer model and thought I’d give it a shot. WOW! From the head strap to the different lighting options, this lamp is loaded with features that are easy to use. Extremely bright, amazingly wide beam on the flood... even the red light is really bright. I haven’t used it long term yet, but if it gets anywhere close to the battery life it claims I’ll be ordering another one.
I returned the Spot 300 and bought this. The light clarity is much better in the new model. The 300 had a yellow "spot" in the light that I could not get past. This model has a brighter and whiter light. The buttons can be a bit finicky at times. Also, after little use, the battery meter shows the headlamp is nearly dead. It hasn't died yet, so we'll see how long it lasts. Overall, it has a lot of settings and works as intended.
