I carried this pot (along with my MSR pocket rocket stove) for my entire AT thru hike- 2,100+ miles, almost 6 months straight. Cooked hundreds of meals, boiled hundreds of pots of water, etc. and it stood the test of time. It can be placed directly on coals/flames with no issues & is easy to clean. I would recommend this size (1100mL) over its smaller counterpart (750mL)- it is the perfect size for knorr sides, ramen w/ mashed potatoes, a whole box of mac n cheese, or dehydrated rice sides. A 12 oz fuel canister fits inside- I wrap the canister in a bandana before storing it though, as the metal on metal will cause rust on the inside of the pot. The only downside to this product is related to its lid- if you're cooking food in the pan & squeeze the grip, even just slightly, it will collapse & your dinner is on the floor. A trail friend fixed this for me (thanks SunnySide) by tightening the little hinge mechanism so it doesn't collapse so easily. I now have 0 complaints!!
I was able to fit a fuel canister, my stove, and a lighter inside. A lot of other reviews talk about the pan handle collapsing and dumping food, but I didn’t have that problem. As long as you don’t squeeze the handle it holds up fine, and if you’re worried you can take some needle nose pliers and bend the tabs in slightly (or take it off and flip it around as someone else suggested.) The pan doesn’t fit super snugly on top, but it isn’t an issue if you stick a rubber band around it. Overall a great little pot, and the pan is a nice bonus.
My boyfriend and I are going on the Appalachian trail next year and I had gotten a smaller pot and pan set that just barely held food for both of us. I hated spilling the food over the edges but loved the wider pot with the pan lid option so I was looking for something similar but bigger so I can fit a large fuel canister inside the pot. We have used this set a few times now and I have no complaints. We actually just took a trip with three people and we cooked for all of us in this one pot comfortably. I like that the pan fits inside of the the pip of the pot instead of setting on the outside edge. It's a very nice touch.
I picked this pot for backpacking over the smaller Titanium pots for multiple reasons. 1. The larger size allows it to nest the larger fuel canister. 2. The larger base has more flame surface area which heats more efficiently (faster boiling with less fuel). 3. I love that the lid is a pan too other than just being a lid. 4. The extra volume. I never backpack alone, so the extra volume comes in handy for things like making hot drinks for more that one person in one batch, verses multiple individual batches. These advantages were more valuable to me than the slight weight increase of a smaller pot. I love this pot!
I love this pot. Very functional for hiking, camping and around the house. This a great size for one or two people. Because it’s a little larger, my wife doesn’t even need to carry any cooking stuff in her pack. It’s very light weight and durable. I even use it around our house.
Love this little set! It is perfect for backpacking. Incredibly lightweight. I had been using a bulky pot for years and so glad that I finally picked this up. The tiny frying pan works as the lid if needed. The pot itself can fit an 8oz fuel canister and lighter, but that's about it. I primarily use it for boiling water while on the trail. Looks nice and has endured multiple backpacking and car camping trips without any wear or tear.
We’ve used this Taks for two week long backpacks. I lost the handle of the lid After a few days during the last trip. The problem is that you squeeze the pot handles together when you grab it, but if you do the same to the lid handle it will disconnect. The trick is to remember to press down-and-up on the lid handle when using. It’s somewhat counter intuitive. Toaks was good enough to send me replacement handle for free. Good product otherwise.
I have a few TOAKS and Snow Peak pots, and I think this one is my favorite so far. The build quality is definitely better than Snow Peak - the lid fits and stays on better. Also, I like how the lid goes inside the pot, instead of outside. The Snow Peak lids never seem to stay put - this one does. The TOAKS wood stove fits in this well, and a few more small items will fit in the stove. Makes for a compact kit.
The handle of the lid / fry pan is only held horizontal by spring tension. Even gently squeezing the handle releases the tension and collapses the handle, more so when the pan is full! Food has ended up on the ground so many times! :( There is an easy design fix for this I have seen on other pans...
This is the perfect size to fit everything i need in it my fuel, stove, towel, lighter, sea to summit x-cup coffee and coffee filter. My gas tri-pod goes on the side in the nice pocket. The only down side is the handles retain alot of heats hence the towel but over all great item.
