This was my first puffy jacket I have ever bought so I have nothing to compare it to. That being said my experience with this jacket so far is that my money was well spent. I have used the fuego for a couple months before leaving this review. I brought it trad climbing, bouldering, and hiking to test it out. Pros: Keeps me WARM, super light, packs down well in the stuff sack they give you, hoodie fits over my helmet, bought it on sale, comfortable to wear while being active or hanging out in, and has a great color scheme. Cons: The material feels a little thin so I usually wear something over it when climbing to try and prevent ripping it open on a fall. Can’t get it wet cause it is down (a given). There are some miscolored threads bunched up in the jacket that are visible on the outside. Zipper can be a little finicky if you’re in a rush. In conclusion the jacket performs well and I’m enjoying my purchase outdoors as I feel was intended.
Battle tested on a AD+ climb in cordillera blancas in negative F weather. This is the best puffer I’ve owned. Light and bulletproof.
This is a great jacket. I gave it a test as my primary jacket on a recent 4-day backpacking trip and it held up great, kept me plenty warm, kept out all of the wind, experienced no tears or rips and no loose down stuffing. The pockets are nicely felt lined, the draw string on the waist is convenient, the inside pockets are a nice touch. The inside of the jacket is a softer type of ripstop nylon than the outside and it feels really nice to the touch. Two draw backs - the jacket is slim fitting, which is nice, but it means that you'll need to size up if you're layering. I'm normally a medium and the arm opening on the medium are just a bit too small, it was constantly rubbing up against my armpit. Another drawback is that the stuff sack is a separate thing, not built into the jacket like is common on most jackets now a days. I just feel like I'm going to end up misplacing that stuff sack. Overall I would highly recommend this jacket and this brand in general, but if you have some muscle definition (big shoulders) you might want to size up a bit.
I wore this jacket for the first time on a trip to Zion and Bryce in February. Temperatures ranged from the 20-55 F and we had every kind of precipitation imaginable. This jacket kept me warm and comfortable throughout the entire trip (even too warm at points). I couldn't recommend it more! So far everything I've gotten from Cotapaxi has been exceptionally made with all the functions I could want.
I love the soft warmer lining of the side pockets, but I miss having an inside chest pocket for my wallet. The stuff sack for it is great for traveling and backpacking, but i feel like I'm going to lose it. I'm keeping it in an inside pocket at all times so it won't be lost in a drawer. Having it stuff into one of its own inside pockets like some other puffies would be more convenient. The coat is super light and warm, but with the hood flipped up the opening of it is pretty loose. A somewhat tighter fit on the hood with elastic or a drawcord could help keep out cold wind and not catch it.
Not used very much. With this price tag I thought I could rely on this product for a decade. Turns out I couldn’t rely on it for a month. Super surprised. I am going to warranty this, but I am never buying from this company again. Disappointing!
It is simply too comfortable! Very lightweight but oh so cozy, this jacket is one of the best pieces of outdoor gear I’ve ever got!
Picked up the Fuego hooded jacket just after Christmas and couldn't be happier with it. Great quality, great fit, and it keeps me warm on my walk to work during the winter. I've tested it on some 5 degree (F) days with high wind, and nothing gets through the shell of the jacket. I read some reviews about the waist of the jacket being a little tight and riding up, but those concerns must've been addressed in this latest version – no issues at all. Very stoked to have finally picked up a jacket of this quality, and excited to take it on winter camping trips soon.
This. Jacket.
I love it !!!
