God fit. Warm. Nice feel.
Normally I'm hesitant to buy something like gloves online. I prefer to try them on first. I have to say, my experience purchasing things online from REI has been very positive and these are no exception. These are meant to be my cool-weather hiking and camping gloves and they will do just fine. They have a nice, snug fit (medium), and they are thicker than I expected (a positive). The stitching appears solid. My sole caveat is that I wish the touchscreen compatible material in both the index finger and thumb was a little longer. My fingers don't quite reach the ends of the glove, so it takes a little concentration to actually avail myself of this feature.
Comfortable, basic gloves
I bought these at the REI retail store so I could try them on first, and I am glad I did. Glove selection at REI ranges from basic to highly specialized (and well over $100). Many of them might suit their intended function, but I just wanted comfortable and warm. This was the only glove in the entire store that I would be satisfied with; comfortable and reasonably priced. Not super-warm, so you will want a good pair of mittens for when things get real cold, but these are medium-warm, and pretty reasonable as winter driving gloves also (although fleece can be slippery, these do have palm pads for good grip).
Poor quality control
Seemed comfortable... except for something poking my hand. Turns out the "Polartec" label goes through the seam on the glove and sticks on the inside. It appears that there's supposed to be fleece covering it, but when I went back to the store, at least half the gloves were missing this piece. (But some of them _did_ have it, so yes, it was supposed to be there. Of course, none of the gloves that had it were in my size...) Because the label is sewn into the glove seam rather than attached separately, you can't remove it without unstitching the glove. Hard pass on these. If the workmanship is so shoddy on something as simple as the label, I wouldn't expect them to hold up over time.
Crooked Fingers? These Gloves May Fit.
The sewn fingers were askew and not completely straight, making me think the machine operator may have been imbibing the local alcoholic brew before or during their shift. Otherwise, the labeled size seemed to fit. It may be a quality control issue at the factory. Not generally what a long-time member of REI would (or should) expect.
Poor quality, thin material. Don't bother.
The seam on one of the fingers split within two weeks of very gentle use. The fleece material was thin and poor quality, and didn't insulate very well to the point where my fingers got cold while in the mid-30's (F). As a concept, and in appearance, these are great gloves. In reality, they are not.
Decent Pair of Gloves
Purchased these to replace some Outdoor Research gloves I had. The OR gloves were more of a glove liner than a glove. The real issue is they didn’t do well with insulating. These gloves though are good. They are a bit airy at the seams in high winds. However for warmth they are pretty good. I do wish the fleece was just a tad bit thicker. But gloves are a hard thing find the right pair. Too tight and they cut off circulation, too loose and they don’t retain warmth. Would be cool to see fingerless gloves with the mitten flippy thing. Just due to being able to use your fingers when you need dexterity but also being able to cover them when you need to keep them warm. All in all though a decent pair of gloves for under $20 on sale.
Warm and comfy
These gloves are a good choice for a lightweight glove that is warm and comfy. I like the attachments that enable the gloves to be connected so you don't lose one of them. Great for driving or skiing in warmer temps.
