[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Like my title, this is the best jacket I've ever purchased. I've been using it for a couple years and haven't written a review until now. I've used this jacket climbing in Europe as well as a casual jacket when off mountain. The venting on this jacket is amazing. I can wear it in 30 degrees with a T-shirt(while moving) and 70 degrees and feel fine. The fit is exceptional as well. Such a sleek look when climbing or not. Most recently I used it for a 2 day summit of Rainier. It hardly left my body. I look forward to using this jacket for years to come because it still looks and performs like it did when I first got it.
Used for recent So. Cal climb/hike day outings. Better fit (athletic lean slim fit) than either competitor (Atom LT, Nano Puff) and more durable against pack abrasion in key areas. Seems warmer as well (I’ve owned all three). Snorkel style sleeves seem loose but if being used casually not an issue and generally you’ll be wearing gloves anyways if your going to don this garment. Better and more pocket volume and configuration. As packable and lightweight as competitors. I think it’s durability makes it more versatile. Wear a single thin baselayer for more aerobic pursuit (mountaineering approach) and a slightly heavier baselayer for belay duty.
I bought this to supplement my layers. I had a true down coat for a long time and have been in need of a synthetic. I got the knickers that TNF makes and liked them so I got the matching coat. Hood fits amazingly. Probably the most comfortable jacket I've ever had I rarely take it off once it is on for the day. Breathes pretty well, really warm, regulates temperature as well. It did pick up a stench on one particularly warm work day on the mountain but it washed up nicely. I do wish it had the holes like some of the other ventrix products, however it does the job I needed it to really well.
Very good jacket. Very versatile. Fits well. DER finish works well. Zippers are well constructed. The only detractor is a very big one to me: VERY loose cuffs. I'm a relatively well build guy and the cuffs almost hang off a full once and a half. I've exchanged this jacket hoping it was a fluke, but sadly it was not.
super great for layering and keeps to dry and comfy when kind of sweatin'. ventrix 2.0 is good for strenuous use! climbed while wearing it and even dragged across granite, held up pretty good!
Got this to replace the themoball jacket that came in my tri-climate snaw jacket. It is amazing. Super light and packable, you don’t feel you have something on but it is super warm. Wore it out with a t-shirt underneath in 30f and it was great. It is wind resistant to a point but if you encounter serious wind or snow It’s best to pair it with a hardshell. I paired it with the tri-climate thermoball snow without the jacket insulation and it did the trick. It did repel water and snow on it’s own during New England rough patch. But for blizzard conditions I used it with the hardshell (T-shirt underneath in 20F) no problem. In the city or hiking up a mountain it performs incredibly. It’s breathable, I can’t explain it, it keeps you warm when it’s cold and if it’s hot it doesn’t suffocate you. It is a no brainer. Buy it. The Ventrix technology is incredible. It’s not like fleece it’s a lot lighter but it keeps you warm. The best piece that I bought this winter on sale for $195.
My husband has been looking for a mid weight coat for a while- he has a pretty long torso and although he's thin, his shoulders are pretty broad (he's 6 ft, 165lbs)- the summit series seems to be the one series that runs a little longer (all the others are a bit too short on him)- the medium was a little tight and short, large fits great. Not as warm as his mid weight coat summit series (hooded alt down) from about 4 years ago, but it will work well on any days above 40. Should be a great layer for skiing as well.
Since picking this up, I can hardly take it off! It is a great multipurpose jacket that I can wear with my jeans or with my ski pants. I've worn this twice already for backcountry skiing and it has kept me super warm! It is also packable for layering or delaying. All around a great jacket, both functionally and stylistically. To be expected from The North Face!
This is a very nice jacket. Unfortunately, the Summit Series is spotty with the sizing. I have other items in the size XL. This one, for some reason, is smaller than a standard XL. The description states that it's a slim fit but it seems a lot smaller than that. This is a great jacket, just keep in mind that it does run smaller.
I had last years version and was excited to see they came out with a 2.0 this year. I'm a female and non of the women's jackets fit the right way in arm length. The men's Xs fits perfect for me! I wish they made more men's XS! Great jacket that I used daily for work and on outings.
