NYC thieves know how to get through this

Had a bike stolen and unfortunately I had not registered the insurance. NYC thieves will use an electric saw and get through this in less than a couple minutes.

Anti-theft registration designed to fail
cmbiker
While a functional lock, the anti-theft offer requires the actual cut lock to be sent in for claims to be approved. In addition, the registration website conveniently fails at the submission stage after taking the time to upload multiple documents and copy serial numbers, etc. These intentional roadblocks are enough to make it clear they don't intend to easily honor their marketing.

Good looking, thick bike lock

Bought on a whim, cause they were priced at $78. Seems to work well so far with my electric bike, really gives me piece of mind when out shopping!

Key won’t function- brand new lock

Just received Mini. Good thing I tried keys because they don’t work! Turn only 90degrees but need to go 180 to open shackle. Not safe or reliable. After multiple attempts, got key to turn but couldn’t get key out after many minutes’ effort. Returning lock. Please note you must register lock with your bike’s serial number within 30 days of purchase to get their Protection policy which may only pay the lesser of the bike’s value OR your deductible whichever is less. Also, one review said policy is void unless you present the broken lock, conveniently left by thief. (FYI) Hope the next keys work.

Small and handy

This U-lock is small but it handles very well. The key-and-lock set works smoothly after a couple to days after you learn the right position to insert the key. It is cute that the key has a small battery powered light (in case you can not see the lock opening). I carry the U-lock in my backpack until the place where I park the bike. The U-lock is not a joke and it is heavy but it is worth every gram to get some more protection for my bike. I need the bike to get back home and sometimes from very far way.

Buy the best the first time

Very happy with purchase. I’ve been using the same Mediocre u lock for ten years, but I’m sure bolt cutters could cut straight through It. Bike theft is a big problem in my area, and I’m now getting around on a $2000 Cargo bike. I realized that this investment will probably last a decade and could save me thousands.

One of the best locks

I have been using my Fahgettaboudit" for over 11 years, have had 4 different bikes, none stolen.........knock on wood! Be sure to dry if off immediately if it gets rained on, otherwise the tumblers can get a little stiff. Yes, it is heavy, and expensive, but so what. Crime has gotten even worse in my area, so, I'm considering the heavy Kryptonite chain lock to supplement the Fahgettaboudit.

Arguably the Hardest Lock Made

This lock has the very highest protection level you will find, and one of few locks NYC bike messengers will use (often paired with a second lock). The steel on here is thick, with layers of superb case hardening. This means the lock can resist cuts from even hydraulic bolt cutters (test show the blades will break first). This lock can be cut with an angle grinder and blade, but it requires two separate cuts to get through. The thief also would likely go through more than one battery, and blade in the process. The thick rubberized coating on this also is designed to gum up blades, even diamond blades, making the thief take even longer, and put in even more effort to get through. The lock is also highly resistant to picking, requiring specialized tools, and advanced skills. Anyone at that level is much more likely to earn a good, legit living as a locksmith. Paired with another high quality chain, wheel lock, or a second NY lock would offer superior protection even in a sketchy area if you have to lock your bike for an extended period of time. At that point a thief is more likely to try to cut through the steel on the bike rack/parking meter you have it locked to. Understand, ANY lock can be cut through or picked given enough time. But this is about the best lock out there, and paired with another quality lock means a thief is likely to give your bike a pass and just head down the street to the next bike. This bike is probably too small for most e-bikes. Double check before buying. If it's not big enough, purchase the Kryptonite New York Standard. A very similar lock, 99% as good as this one. If you buy this lock you MUST register it with Kyrptonite. That's the only way they will replace the keys if you lose them, or warranty the lock (and maybe your bike) if someone does manage to steal your bike.

Keeps my bike secured: tires, frame, and all

This lock definitely keeps the bike secure. I find it is possible to lock detached tires tot the frame and a metal pole and, though this is a tad bit of a tight fit due to the U-lock length, it gets the job done.

amazing

Not the lightest lock or the easiest your store. That’s not why I bought this thing. This is the only lock that truly gives me peace of mind locking my bike outside. My bicycle is nice and I want to protect. On top of that Kryptonite provides theft protection insurance for a certain time. And you can extend time frame longer for a small fee. Thank you for kryptonite.

Bike theft? Fahgettaboudit!

With this lock my bike isn't going ANYWHERE, even in crime-ridden Tacoma! This is an incredibly substantial piece of security and the warranty and guarantee attached to it are second to none! The price is very much a great value.
