It gets the family on the water.
I bought mine used locally. The family I bought it from bought a powerboat and didn’t need this anymore. They did say that it was used a ton. Enough to convince them to buy a powerboat. But also I have used it just about every weekend this summer and I love being on the water. It’s easily maneuverable, I plan on using it for river camping trips, this fall and next spring. I can pack all of my gear into it and have room for a cooler. My kids can fit in the bow and the stern and they like to go for paddles also . The Friday that I bought it, I kept it on The car. We took it out Saturday morning, I drove around with it on the car the rest of the weekend just to flex.
Owner for over 2 years
Great for float camping. I am able to bring almost anything I want 65 liter bag in front and 110 liter in back. Tracks good and is fast. The chair is the best, I am able to float 5-6 hours without my back killing me.
occupies a unique and unchallenged niche.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i bought new three years ago. this is a FAST canoe. great for flatwater. holds a ton. also, use it for ozark streams that can get very shallow. i float right through riffles that my other kayaks run aground on making me get out. 200 lb man can float through 2.5 inches of water. pushes right through swampy stuff because it runs so shallow. I'm even able to paddle upstream enjoyably when my other kayaks will not at all. on the water it is very photogenic, lots of curb appeal. it has its place, i think this boat should return to production every three years or so. i will never sell, you can't find them used because people don't part with them.
Floating Luxury ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This boat has not received the attention it should have. Stable, Fast and very comfortable. I wanted something to bring camping and survival gear along with my dog on many adventures and this is perfect for that.
Fun river runner.
The Solo NEXT canoe seems to be a very good canoe, however the bottom is not flat as advertised. It does have a small keel running the length of the bottom so it does not turn as quickly on the river as a flat bottom canoe does (I have 10 canoes of various sizes). The NEXT is narrow and easy to paddle with a kayak paddle. The seat is very comfortable and has a stowage capacity under the seat for thin objects held suspended under the seat.
Great boat
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently completed a 6 day, 125 mile solo expedition on the Altamaha River in my Old Town Next, and I have to say, that it truly exceeded all expectations. Unlike a sea kayak, the Next is easy to load and unload and offers plenty of capacity for a multi-day expedition. The seat is comfortable, even during long, 20+ mile days and, best of all, paddling kayak-style makes the boat quick and maneuverable, much better than traditional canoe paddling (apologies to the purists). I didn't expect to be so pleased with the comfort and performance of the Old Town Next, but I definitely am. It's a great boat!
Quite pleased
I’ve had this boat for going on 3 years now. I don’t have a lot of experience with other solo canoes or with kayaks, only larger canoes. It responds well to a double blade paddle. I can go faster and farther in this boat by myself than I can with most partners in my 16’ Mad River RX Explorer. I ended up using and being happy with a 260 cm paddle for a dryer ride after starting off with the suggested 240 cm length. I can and do sometimes use a shorter canoe paddle when I want to be quiet, but this boat isn’t set up well for it. The low seat height makes using a canoe paddle impractical. This can be somewhat remedied by raising one’s seat height with a cushion, but doing this raises the center of gravity and makes the boat feel less stable. I haven’t tried kneeling with the seat out, but plan on it this year as soon as water temps get high enough to be willing to risk a swim. I, an out of shape 50 year old 6’1” 220 lb man, can lift, carry, and load it without trouble and without much effort. The low seat height makes fishing out of the boat harder than in my 16’ trad canoe (in which I can also stand and fish), but getting to the fishing hole is much easier and faster in this boat. The Next has plenty of storage capacity, especially when compared to kayaks. All in all, I’m pleased with the boat and would buy another if needed.
I love my canoe!
It gives me plenty of room for fishing gear and my dog. The seat is super comfy and the position of the seat provides stability. My only complaint is that is is a bit heavy.
Fantastic For Fishing
This is my second year fishing in a NEXT and I love it! I traded a traditional sea kayak in for a NEXT because I get in and out of my boat a lot as I float rivers. The seat in the NEXT is very comfortable for fishing all day. You can easily adjust the seat and change positions in the boat which is difficult to do in a traditional kayak. The NEXT is lightweight, so I can easily throw it in the back of my truck. I looked at fishing kayaks and they are too big and heavy for my needs. I prefer to paddle my NEXT with a kayak paddle. For many years I fished from a two man canoe with my son. Now that my son is grown and left home, I have been looking for the perfect solo fishing rig. I am glad that I found the NEXT.
Love this boat. It's easy to control. The seat is very comfortable. Adjustable with foot rests too. Not too heavy. Well built and thought out. Holds a bunch of cargo if you need. Just what I was looking for.
