Been a Keen fan for years, quality and dependable footwear. This shoes require some ankle area break-in, firm but comfortable soles. I feel the size is a tad bigger instead of my previous Keen experience of true size fitment. Maybe for thicker hiking socks, but I like wearing thinner socks. Arch support and ankle support is just right. Not too stiff of an ankle support (which I find uncomfortable, but necessary for harder-core hiking). I also plan to use these boots for NYC winters and put it thru snow, mud, salt, etc.
I've been wearing Keens for 14 years now. I got these when I was still in Florida, and I took these shoes in dry and wet, humid field conditions and they worked well. They feel great and give me the ankle support I enjoy. I've returned to Colorado and since moving back I've taken the Aphlex into the snow and dry, rocky trails around here. I can't say enough good things about them, really. I use them for day hikes, so I'm carrying zero to 12 pounds or so (including water) for mostly 5-10 mile hikes and they do the trick in comfort. I did immediately change the boot liner for one with more cushion in the heel, but I do that with every boot I get. f the Aphlex holds up a year in the field conditions I encounter, then I'll buy another pair for sure.
I bought this a couple of months ago for a light weight and hopefully more breathability foot wear for spring summer hiking. They are well fitting, lots of toe room, snug on heel. Very water proof. I hiked a weekend in constant rain and mud, mulched my yard in the rain this weekend and my feet stayed dry and not sweaty. The arch support is lacking and shank is flimsy so I stiffened up with an over the counter orthotic device. Because of this I give only a 3. I do not like lightweight “float or feel” running shoes so maybe these hikers are supposed to be this flimsy but my modification gives the best of both worlds.
Bought this boot to replace a pair my son had out grown, expecting the same reliability from Keen that we come to expect, first off fit is great, comfort is great, look wise they look well made. Yet I bought these to be my sons primary waterproof boot, just as his outgoing keens were. Buy first day at the Grand Canyon, 6 inches of snow in some places, they leaked from sole into the boot. Mind you we weren’t hiking through deep snow, most snow the boot saw was a few minutes a day of snow hiking. The boot linear was extremely damp, the inside of the boots foot bed was very wet. Again we have taken his last set of Keens to Yosemite in deep snow, no issues. Definitely returning these.
I bought a pair of these to walk/hike in the rain with my German Shepherd, nothing heavy duty. The boots immediately let water in on day one. They fit well, though, and are comfortable.
Great stylish shoes. Pro: I have wide feet and this shoes fit. Feel perfect. I am a size 9. I tried salmon x utrs 3 it was good too. I also tried lasportiva but it was too tight. I even went up .5 size. Cons: Toecap glue not holding the shoes. I noticed gaps after 2 hiked. Lugs too small almost slip and slide going downhill on gravel.
I’ve only worn them once for a number of hours but was active with hiking and working. They are comfortable, true to size and my early impression is that it was a good buy. Given the material doesn’t appear breathable, I was concerned that they might be hot but that wasn’t a factor.
I bought these shoes on sale. I love Keen shoes, but these were not your average Keen. They were very uncomfortable with no support and an unusual fit. Took them back.
Very comfortable however, they are not holding up to their waterproof description. My socks were wet just from walking in a little bit of snow.
Good boot comfortable, water proof, etc. Good sole traction and grip. Well suited for hiking or light packing. Not for heavy packing.
