Excellent system for easily lifting your kayaks
Excellent system for easily lifting your kayaks up to the garage ceiling to get them out of the way when not in use. The Suspenz pulleys and block and tackle are sturdy, the ropes are strong, and the rope brake works great as you raise and lower the kayak(s). With the 4 to 1 advantage of the block & tackle it makes lifting our 80lbs of kayaks feel like only 20lbs. There are cheaper kayak hoists out there, but this system is worth the cost to me for the lifting advantage, quality of the components, and considering the cost of the kayaks I don’t want a system that may fail. Installation is pretty straight forward as long as your garage conforms to the requirements in the instructions i.e. 10’ from the front or side of the kayak(s) to the wall, but things can be modified to fit oddities like the i-beam that runs across the middle of our garage. With only 9’ of space from garage door to i-beam, and more than 10’ from the side of the kayaks to the side wall I had to get creative on the install so I added 2 pulleys to the configuration and ran the block & tackle at an angle back over the kayaks to the garage door wall and ran the lifting rope down between the doors. The second modification I made was to build a rack to lift both kayaks with one hoist. Although designed to lift a single kayak (max 90lbs) I wanted to lift 2 (combined weight 76lbs + ~10lbs for the rack) at once so I built a rack out of 2x3” lumber. On the advice from Suspenz customer support I added straps for the kayaks to rest on to avoid them developing flat spots. The kayaks can be stored right side up or upside down.
Suspenz product works great
Very impressed with the final installation and use of this product. The instructions are very detailed (as they need to be), to make sure you have a safe and secure installation. Product itself is made of high quality materials and I've been very pleased with the value.....you get what you pay for.
Works perfectly, easy to raise and lower.
Instructions could've been written more clearly but the product is 5-star. Make sure you identify which hoist ropes are longer (rear) and shorter (front) before running them through the pulleys. We spent a bit of time at the end adjusting hanging lengths vs. underbelly strap lengths but it was worth it. Lots of excess hoist rope, but it's better than not having enough!
