How to store your rope if you’ve already got a bag
I bought this rope tarp to hold my 60m rope and store in my 35L climbing bag. It stores well when wrapped up. The material is low friction on both sides so it slides around a lot on a slope. The best part of this tarp is the overall surface area. For the price I think it should come with a carabiner.
Good rope keeper once you learn how to roll it!
If you need something simple and inexpensive to keep your rope together in your bag and out of the dirt while climbing, this tarp fits the bill. It’s big enough to flake a 70m rope onto easily and it’s not expensive. As for the rolling part, if you want to roll the rope up inside of it like in the product photo, you need to push the rope into the middle of the pocket and fold in both sides of the tarp before you start rolling. It’s exactly like rolling a burrito, if you fold the sides in ~8-10” the rope won’t fall out. You can either dump the resulting rope burrito into your pack or use a biner to secure the daisy chain fastener on the tarp and then strap the whole thing to the outside of your pack. If you frequently carry your rope by itself get a rope bag instead but if you need a tarp this works fine.
Finally!
yes! finally just a tarp - and a rad one too. I have a few of the Metolius Rope Ranger rope bags but sometimes I only want the tarp if I know my rope will be living in my climbing bag anyways. This tarp is big and simple with tie in points and the little pouch makes it easy to move your rope around the cliff. Plus it's only $20!
It is what it is, But it works
I bought this item for my Tactical/ Assault Rope. Building Rappels and things of that nature. I need to be mindful of how I roll it up, or it slips out the end, due to the slick fabric. When strapped to the bottom of my Tactical Pack...No problem. I also own, and reviewed my other 2 Metolius Rope bags. The Dirt Bag 2, and Rope Master.
Fine but there’s better options
Fine but for a couple dollars more, I could have gotten a tarp that rolled up into a bag. Another member at my gym says his ripped within 2 uses. Fortunately mine hadn’t ripped. I wouldn’t buy again.
Good as a tarp, bad for rope transport
I use a 13L daypack (TR and Sport) and can't carry the rope inside my pack. The rope tends to slip out of the tarp very easily, especially when flaked. The tarp would do much better if it was strapped onto the top of a pack, or carried inside. Now I wear my rope as a backpack coil on top of my pack, and carry my tarp separately in my bag. Good budget option, but I'll definitely upgrade for my next purchase.
Good tarp
Durable and compact! My only complaint is that careful tucking/folding is necessary to not tangle your rope during transport.
Durable rope bag that won't weigh you down.
I've been using this tarp exclusively in the gym for past year. Love it. Perfectly accommodates my 35m rope; rolls up quickly and nicely with no zippers or pieces to break. It's light and doesn't take up any more room than necessary –– open or closed. Only caveat is that I paid $20 for it a year ago, and I see the price has gone up 50% since then.
So far so good
I’ve only had this for about a week so plan to update once I’ve taken it on a couple of trips. I previously owned the Trango tarp and so far ouch prefer this one. I returned the Trango tarp because the latching system is flawed. This bag closes tight and the pouch also helps keep the rope fro slipping out of the ends.
Solid Basic Rope Bag
Works well as a rope bag for my 70m rope. It’s big, but it compacts down with a carabiner or two. No issues or problems after several trips to the crag.
