Great Truck Pad!

The new version of the truck pad is definitely better than the prior version. No more loose Velcro holding the bikes down, replaced by a tightening strap. The outside feels more premium and weather proof and the padding actually feels like it will protect your truck. The length is also longer to accommodate tailgates that have a weird shape or fatter lip. The pad fit my Ranger perfectly fine and doesn’t obscure my backup camera at all and the flap folds easier now to be tucked in. 100 percent recommend this version!

Two damaged bikes, bad design

The black padding for where the bike frames sit is all one piece so it doesn't bend easily on the 90 degree corner of the tailgate. You have to awkwardly ensure when you synch down the straps that it keeps the bikes secured to the padding. I scratched two bike frames because it wasn't secured tight enough and slipped down while driving. The whole thing doesn't sit flat when you do this either so it looks terrible. This is on an 2018 F150. All they needed to do was put a seam that allowed a better bend or extend the black padding to make it bend easier.

Straps not long enough for our e-bikes!!

Looks like a great product. It is a tad wider than my new Ram 1500 tailgate but am able to scrunch it to fit. The biggest concern however is that the straps aren’t long enough to go around the frame of our new Aventon e-bikes. I would think with all the e-bikes around now, with batteries on the mid-frame, Yakima would make the straps a bit longer!! My wife and I cut the stitching off on the ends which gave us 3 more inches and re-sewed(hemmed) the ends to provide a catch for the hook. Should work. Please be aware of this!

GateKeeper on the Honda Ridgeline.

The GateKeeper works well on my Honda Ridgeline. It is easily attached with the tailgate swung open. I have yet to figure out how to keep the bikes attached from starting to lean over in transport while securely attached to the GateKeeper. My next step is to make sure the rear tires are placed in the groves of the Ridgeline bed floor

holds bikes very nicely.

When shopping for tailgate pads make sure they have individual pads for each bike like this one does. A lot of other don’t have pads for your down tube. This product works great.

Disappointment over time

I purchased this pad less than a year ago from REI. Seems really nice but unfortunately the padding eventually wore out in the area you secure you bike so now I have a dent in my tailgate 😔. Basically the cushioning thins itself out. So in the end it isn't protecting your tailgate as it should. I am now adding extra cushion myself but a disappointment.

Poor interface with 2024 Chevy Colorado

Very disappointed on how this works with my 2024 Chevy Colorado. It does not hold the bikes upright, protect the bikes, or protect the truck. After a handful of uses, I have noticed that it allowed the tailgate to get dents along the top where the fork sits. This will be returned within REI’s policy.

Doesn't protect the tailgate.

This pad doesn't protect the tailgate, ended up with dents in my brand new 24 Colorado. The padding and structure over the top of the tailgate is weak and allows the forks to smash into the top of the tailgate and cause dents.

Garbage

Absolute garbage. This tailgate pad makes it difficult to secure my e-mtb and has so little padding that my downtube has been damaged. Very disappointed that I’m going to have to buy a different brand pad after only 2 years now that my “return window” has closed.

Works well on my pickup!

I have a 2017 Ram 2500 and even though the tailgate is curved, this fits fairly well, with just a little slack on the ends. It's slightly wide, such as sometimes one end gets in the way when closing the tailgate. This was surprising as the width listed seemed to indicate it would easily fit. The straps to hold down the bikes work well. I was a little skeptical with the G hook use but it seems to work well and the bikes are secure. One thing to keep in mind that I didn't consider, if your bike has a water bottle cage on the bottom of the frame, it may not fit on this pad as the water bottle holder lines up right where the strap/pad is and it won't strap down or fit securely. For me it was the case with a kid's 24" bike as the frame wasn't big enough to have the water bottle cage on the inside of the frame. Lastly, for me the flap works pretty well and I'm able to roll it up and secure it under the top of the pad so I can have access to the handle and my back-up camera. The flap is probably a little bigger than needed, but better than being too small. Overall the pad works well and now just need to find more time for biking!
