Beach sunshade for Baby
Bought this to keep the grandbaby out of the sun on the beach. Other review talked about bungee cord breaking (?) but ours had tie lines, not bungee cords. We put the baby's pack-n-play in the cabana and she was totally content because she could see out the screened windows and watch the beach activities while being shaded from the sun. I would definitely buy again. P.S. Bear Lake wind kicks up in the afternoon. Many of the "tents" or canopies set up have to be taken down or get blown down. This lower profile tent held its ground through pretty strong winds.

Would not buy again.
I bought the Kelty Cabana Shelter brand new from REI and used it maybe three times before one of the bungee cords broke. Upon closer inspection, Kelty must of used the cheapest bungee cord on the market. I cannot get Kelty or REI to help me out. Kelty sent me a link on how to repair myself. I refuse to sink another $25 dollars into something that should be warrantied with such little use. If I had actually depended on this product, I would've been in bad shape. The tent now lies dormant in a closet.

Pole split

Wanted a tent for the beach while traveling and really liked the price of this tent. Upon setting up I thought the tent was huge but honestly once you are outside its the perfect size for 2 people (and perhaps a little one). Great coverage from the sun and this tent had great ventilation esp on a hot beach. But the second day I set this up, the longest pole spilt and hardly any force was being applied. Fortunately I used some duct tape but it was not as stable. I ended up returning this at REI (thanks REI) and purchased a new one to try again. That is how much I liked this tent. To be continued...

Fashion over Function

This Kelty has a very nice design and the colors look great on grass. The tent is lightweight and the straps make it easy to carry around. However, this tent cannot stand any wind. Shortly after setting up at the park, it couldn't hold up against the light wind. The short two poles kept bending down, nearly hitting our heads. I don't see how this product could stand at beaches, let alone a rainstorm. The poles are described as "Solid structure, yet flex with the wind" but is falsely advertised. The wrapped fiberglass poles split within minutes and the tent was no longer standing up straight. This was the first day I used this product. I am definitely returning this as soon as I can.

Okay for rain

This tent looks fun but actually works well for camping. The door can be shut at only the lower half, making it convenient to reach into the tent from outside while blocking dirt/grass on the ground. The windows provide excellent protection from the rain, though I haven't tried it in strong winds. The door is okay for the rain and some clamps will be enough to prevent the rain from dripping in. The corners of the door need some attention though, as water can leak in a small amounts.

Essential beach equipment

Great little shelter for the beach. Would be 5 stars, except the cap from one of the poles came off on second use. Was easily fixed with some electrical tape.

great lightweight shelter

Bought this because of price and weight. Used for canoe tripping instead of a tent or hammock. It has performed well above its intended use. With the front open it easily sleeps 4. With two people it is spacious. Much more weatherproof than expected. Rain drips in at the corners of windows when heavily raining but just drips. No significant water got in. Window closures make it so the rain stays outside. They are sewed at the bottom and close to the top. Not bug proof at all, but did not expect it to be. Easy one person set up. Fiberglass poles (3) are light but still bind up when taking shelter down. Last used on 7 day canoe trip in October 2019. Rained 6 of 7 days. 30-55 F temps. Shelter kept everything dry and protected. Did also use a freestanding rainfly from another company over the Cabana on the worst days which made the system weather proof. Packs small. At just over 5 lbs it sleeps 2-4 easily. For the price this performs as well as shelters 4 x its cost. Far exceeded my expectations since my use for it has been quite outside the shelters intended use. Pros- lightweight, inexpensive, well designed Cons- no bug protection

Pole sleeves are inconvenient and cheaply made

Pole sleeves are made cheaply and tear easily. Not a good shelter for a crowded area as the poles are very long. Overall a nice shelter, but not Kelty's best tent.

almost perfect

everything about the shelter is awesome EXCEPT the pole sleeves...new model has clips vs sleeves, much easier to pitch with less chance of shockcord breakage/wear. we saved about $30 on this model over the current model, in retrospect i would have bought the current model.
