Lightweight, but...

This impressed me, at first sight, as being the functional equivalent of the MSR Windburner at half the weight. It does have half the weight, but only some of the function.
What the other reviews say is right: it’s light, compact, easy to use, and lets you have a separate bowl (hot food and hot drink at the same time - like oatmeal and tea for breakfast.) The stove is a powerful burner, with some simmering ability.
However, the stove is susceptible to wind; the flame has never gone completely out, and the three-way windblock does re-ignite it if one part goes out. The thing is, the wind will also blow the flame sideways, sending heat away from the pot. The fix isn’t hard - find a windblock, such as the lee side of a large tree, log, or rock (or, in a light breeze, the other side of your seated body.)
The problem with the pot isn’t easily fixed. The rubber (silicone, I assume) band is useful for picking up the pot to drink, but there’s an exposed aluminum lip that ensures a hot drink will still burn your lips. When the pot is cool enough to drink from, your drink is warm, not hot. This could easily have been avoided if MSR would have used a snap-on lid with a drinking port, like the Jetboil or Windburner lid. A slip-on cozy with a bottom (like some of the GSI sets have) that you could rest the pot in between sips would have also been a nice feature. The shortcomings of the pot are the reason for my 4 rating.
Bottom line: if your overriding concern is weight, this is a really good choice. However, if you want the full function of an insulated pot you can drink from, plus a stove that isn’t susceptible to wind, pass it by - and realize that the function you want comes at a price in weight.

Fantastic Except for One Design Flaw

I used this while backpacking to boil water for meals, and it worked as expected. Other than one big flaw. The measuring cup is the exact same color as the pot and I ended up burning the plastic measuring cup. I think making the measuring cup a bright red would prevent something like this from happening. After a tough day of backpacking when all you want is a hot meal it is easy to forget to remove the measuring cup.

As a disclaimer, this is my first personal size backpacking stove, so I don’t really have anything with which to compare it. However, I used this on a camping trip in March where the temperature was 30 degrees Fahrenheit in the morning, and it boiled a half liter of water very quickly. It packs small, and it is lightweight. The pot gripper works well and is lightweight. The flame is very adjustable, with plenty of room on the high end, but it can also go pretty low if you need it to.

Perfect little stove. Took it winter camping, easy to light even in the wind. Love that it all packs into the pot with a fuel canister. I maybe would have opted for one that had a built in lighter but for the price this one is great for me.

Bought this for the convenience of packing everything tight. Found that if you are creative, you can also fit your scouring sponge and lighter in the same pot. Bottom bowl can be used for coffee or oat meal, etc... and everything cleans up easily. I can easily get 5 to 5 days from one full can of fuel. was thinking of going cold soak, but I want my morning coffee and a hot meal on a cold night in the north country is the perfect way to end a day. Just be careful and remove the bottom bowl before putting it on the burner. Ya, my bad... Luckily I caught it before it was too bad.

Used this stove kit on a 4 day kayak camping trip to Lake Umbagog in northern NH. Temps got down to the mid 30's at night and in the morning, but no issues with stove performance at all. Boiled water quickly and efficiently. I kept the flam on low/medium to conserve fuel, so I am sure it would have been even faster to boil if I increased the flame. The stove was easy to pack into a day pack when we went paddling around the lake and wanted to be sure we could have hot lunch or drinks during the day. Ridiculously easy to use and so much cleaner that the older white gas stove my paddling partner brought. I was very happy with its performance.

This beats my old camp stove hands down. Everything packs nicely into the pot and that includes the 8oz fuel cell. We took this on a 3 day backcountry camping trip to SNP. It worked wonderfully. We used it to heat water for dehydrated meals and used only 1/4 of the fuel from the small 8oz cylinder. Heated water very fast. We use pop-up bowls/cups and I do recommend leaving the plastic cup behind if you do the same. I read a number of reviews where people forgot about it and melted it to the metal cup. We left it behind and glad we did. The plastic lid, keep and use.

Great kit, but leave the measuring cup at home

I love this kit for 1-2 people. Very light and still affordable, but leave the measuring cup at home. After 6 uphill miles my brain admittedly was not in great working order and I forgot to take the plastic measuring cup off before boiling some water. I look away, then look back as it flames up and melts all over the stove and fuel canister. I admit that it was my own fault, but I just had no use for the plastic measuring cup and forgot about it. Please don't make the same mistake I did. The good news is that I was able to remove most of the melted plastic and pack it out and was still able to boil water. The pocket rocket 2 gets 5 stars. The kit gets 4.

My first backpacking stove but after reading the positive reviews I had to go for it. Went with the mini stove kit as well and it’s the perfect size. If you want the gas canister to fit with the rest of the kit, make sure you get the small 4oz canisters. The larger ones will not fit. Maybe everybody else was aware of this but I was not! As far as the burner goes, im very impressed. Every time I ignite the thing it sounds like a jet engine, or I guess “rocket” engine. It’s very durable. I was worried it would be wobbly as many people said that in their reviews, however I have not had any problems with it. The teeth on the metal prongs grip very well and keep my pot steady. Definitely recommend!

I have used the pot and stove now for about 2 years. The stove is fantastic even if it is loud. My complaints are with the pot. If you turn the heat up past a certain point, the silicon ring falls down into the flame. I lit mine on fire one time that I didn’t catch it soon enough. I’ve been using the aluminum pot gripper since then. The pot gripper is not great and it scratches the anodizing on the inside of the pot. A simple handle on the pot would have fixed both of these issues.

This kit seemed a little high compared to others on the market. However, I feel totally great about my purchase. I believe in the saying "buy once, cry once". I've taken this kit on a few hikes and it boils water really fast. I mainly want to boil water for drinking, for freeze dried meals, and making coffee. It takes up minimal space in my pack especially with the small fuel canister nested inside the pot/cup. Once water comes to a boil the pot grabber safely lets me pour the water into my mountain House or other container. Beware, even though there is silicone on the sides, it will be too hot to grab using the silicone only. I think it was intended on just grabbing while drinking a warm beverage. I don't use the bowl to put food in, so that I don't have to clean it. However, I use the bowl to measure water for cooking. I wish the lid fit a little better on the bowl, but it still does the job. The only other hiccup I've had was with the Pocket Rocket 2 when using the burner on high. The burner seemed to freeze up, it stopped working momentarily. I disconnected the fuel and let it warm up for about a minute and screwed the burner back on. It worked perfectly after that, I just don't let it burn wide open anymore. Even on a medium setting this thing boils really fast, that's why I can't give this rating a ding. Any compresses fuel that goes from high pressure to low pressure at high rate of flow will tend to freeze up. I will update this review if my milage down the road varies.
