I have 5 pair of the denim Darn Tough hiking socks. I rotate them into the wash as I wear hiking boots a couple of times or more each week on metal detecting and fossil hunting outings. The socks give the the cushion and comfortable fit that help make each outing most enjoyable.
Unfortunately these were too wide in the toes at the seam and the extra material bunched up on the sides. Other than that I really liked them. They have a smooth feel.
Darn tough socks were the first hiking socks I’ve ever owned. I’ve been wearing this socks for several years. This is my 7th pair and I’m still using my first pair of socks. I always have an issue with the seams by the pinky toes. With this socks you can’t tell if there’s a seam. It fits very good and snug kind of like compression so I don’t get swollen feet after a very long hike. Darn Tough socks are like answer to my prayers. So satisfied that I would not try any other socks. I’m size 7 (small) but with this socks I find medium size more comfortable.
I wear these socks year round. The cushioning is essential for my general comfort, and the wool does a terrific job of keeping my feet comfortable and dry whether the weather is below freezing or above 100F. The height is comfortable - tall enough to serve under ankle boots, and you can fold them over if need be. They stay up and stay on. I am on the edge for sizing and I choose to buy the larger size. I line dry mine to make sure they'll last as long as possible... I have several pairs have lasted for years of daily use, and have outlasted other brands of wool socks to stay not only whole but still very comfortable for a hard day outside or in. I have multiple kinds of Darn Tough socks to try to get different colors and these pairs are among my favorites - the ones I'll save if I know I have a tough day on my feet coming up.
I put these to the test on a field-work trip in which I was wearing waders in warm weather for up to 10 hours. First, they are incredibly comfortable, noticeably more than other socks I have. Second, after 10 hours of my feet being closed in waterproof waders and wading boots, my feet were very dry. And the most impressive part is truly the fact that they don't get smelly. I have been able to wear them up to 3 days straight, leaving them to air out at night. I'm excited for the lifetime warranty of darn tough so when these wear out, I've got more! Truly an investment in your gear and your feet.
Darn Tough are the best. These are my go-to when I think it's going to be snowy/dirty. I generally prefer shorter crew socks but this plus gators helps keep the grit out of my shoes. Happy to see a color for women that isn't purple or pink!
I purchased these for a recent trip to Iceland. I was so worried that my feet would be cold as it was roughly 20-30 degrees outside each day and we were constantly walking around on snow-covered ground. These socks were great! I only had to wear one pair of socks and my feet stayed warm and dry. The one day I wore merino wool sock liners my feet actually felt colder than just wearing the socks alone. I cannot recommend these enough if you're looking for something to keep your feet warm and provide a light cushion!
I've had these socks for two years now and I am switching out all of my hiking socks to the Darn Tough brand. I'm super-impressed with their lifetime warranty and that they're 100% made in Vermont. A great company making a great sock! For so many years I had been committed to the Smartwool hiking sock, but recently (early 2022) the new pair I bought became floppy within just a few hours of wearing. I don't need my socks slipping around in my boots! Darn Tough for the win :)
Open several pairs of these and the crew sized ones. Just wish REI sold the other colors like black or grey in women’s sizes.
Comfortable, not itchy, just the right amount of stretch. Kept my feet warm and dry during a week of rainy hiking.
