Makes loading skis so easy!

We originally bought the regular snowpack, but after mistakenly watching an installation video of this extender, realized that we needed to return the regular snowpack and buy the extender. We are not disappointed - this extender makes loading skis SO MUCH easier both while in our own garage, and especially after a long day of skiing. Easy to install and easy to remove. Highly recommend.

Very easy to use. Somewhat difficult setup

I really enjoy using the product. It's easy to get snowboards in and out. Somewhat difficult to setup. I would give a 4 star rating if not for he locks/keys. It's very difficult to turn the locks. My snowpack extender is most likely stuck on my roof forever. After trying for about an hour we got the lock to turn to mount it to the vehicle. Cannot get the lock to turn to unlock to take it off.

Awesome Rack - Slide is Amazing

I have only used the Thule SnowPack Extender for one skiing trip thus far but immediately loved it. It’s been installed on a Subaru Forester for about 3 weeks now and there has been zero whistling even at highway speeds. Installation was pretty simple overall, although the pictures in the install guide aren’t intuitive, even for somebody very mechanically inclined like me. Using the SnowPack for its true purpose completely sold me. It would be a good piece of equipment even without the slide, but having the ability to slide the skis out past the top of the vehicle so I didn’t have to reach on top of the vehicle was amazing. Super quick and easy to install and remove both skis and poles, and they were held very securely the entire trip. Only 2 gripes: The first I’d hardly call a gripe and it’s likely going to be with any sliding ski rack, but the two bars slide independently rather than as a single unit. This makes it difficult to keep both bars moving at the same speed and distance, thus making it difficult to keep the skis lined up straight as I push the bars back on top of the vehicle to secure the skis. Second complaint is that the rack comes with two types of fasteners, and they’re not universal to all bars. I have the Thule Aeroblade Edge crossbars on my car but stock Subaru crossbars on my Forester. If I want to transfer the ski rack from the Forester to my car I’m going to have to remove the clamps I’m using for the Subaru FROM THE SKI RACK and then attach the other type of fastener TO THE SKI RACK, then attach it to my car. It would be much easier if the rack came with a single clamp that was universal among all bars so I could easily transfer the rack from vehicle to vehicle without having to remove and attach different clamps to/from the ski rack itself. The rackcomes with 4 locks: 2 per bar - 1 to prevent each bar from being removed from your vehicle, and 1 to keep each bar closed so skis can’t be stolen. Comes with 2 keys that each fit all 4 locks. Awesome product overall and I highly recommend for those who want easy loading and unloading for ski/boards.

Best Ski Rack I've Owned

I spent tens of hours researching a new ski rack system for my car. After 20years with my original Thule rack system, I bought a new vehicle and needed to update things. Vehicle had a hitch so wanted to use it to avoid having to clamber up on a wheel or footwell to reach inner skis. Enter this beast. The extending mechanism is AWESOME. My new vehicle is a 2021 BMW X7 and never-again will I worry about getting skis up there. Although everyone highly rated the Thule Tram, the hitch bike racks necessary required too many accessories to kit my young kids bikes as well as my wife's mountain bike with an angled bar. So happy I landed with this.

makes loading easier

I'm short, my new car has a high roofline, and my shoulders are weak, so without the extender, I wouldn't be able to load a couple pairs of skis on my roof without a step stool of some sort. This rack solves the problem.

Very easy to mount if you already have aero bars. It looks good and it's well made. There is very minimal road noise added when driving on freeways.

Favorite ski rack

I use this every weekend with 4 sets of skis and works great. Really like the sliding feature, but have to note that sometimes if it's a really snowy icy day it can get a little jammed up, but that usually isn't an issue and it still always opens reliably. Going to buy another for my other car.

Thule Snowpack Extender

Great product, I use this to secure 6 fishing rods when I make the 2 hours drive to Corpus Christi with no damage to my equipment. I will be testing it on ski’s in the near future. I wanted the room in the bed of your truck to place my fishing, camping gear and didn’t want to take the chance of my rods breaking so that’s why I purchased this. I would recommend this to anyone looking to secure your gear.

not the typical thule quality

My thule rack system is superior quality…..except for this ski rack. When I use the T-mounts they whistle between 25-60mph. I have tried all the tricks and adjustments and cannot find a solution. I am beginning to think maybe there is a defect with my item because REI has confirmed it’s not a known issue and I have asked other rack fitters and everyone is left perplexed…..otherwise the design is great.

Good Product, Absolutely Terrible Directions

Product works as advertised. Once installed, easy to load and remove skis, especially with the extender. Would give a 5 star rating but initially putting the rack together should have taken 30 minutes max but instead took 3 hours due to almost useless instructions. Instructions have no words-just pictures. This would be fine but the pictures are for 3 different models of Thule Ski rack with no clarification which pictured instructions are for your model. Also there are some left over pieces depending which model you have but no instructions to tell you which pieces go to which model. Lastly, the rack comes with 2 types of Keys (rectangular head, round head). The rectangular head is a "one time" use key to install the tumbler to the rack (and the key must be inserted into the tumbler) while installing (otherwise it wont fit). Once tumbler is installed, you can throw this key away. The other key (round head) is the key you must keep because this actually opens and locks the rack. It would be nice if the instructions told you this but with no words, how do you communicate this message? Through trial and error and with a You tube video which kind of showed me how to install this rack, I finally figured it out. I understand Thule saving money by not having to print an instruction manual in a multitude of languages. But how much money can it cost to simply have a manual in different languages that includes written instructions that can be downloaded to your computer? I wanted to give a 5 star review but I had to substract at least one star for Thule basically not having an instruction manual.
