I was looking for a replacement for my well worn Marmot black jacket which I wear to business events and travel with. REI has a value of a jacket that hides the hood, provides rain protection, warmth, with zippered vents and light weight that make it ideal for a variety of occasions from business casual to hiking up mount hood. The jacket rolls into the pocket and is ideal for rain, or protection from the wind and elements in Minneapolis or Phoenix and at this price, a true value. Cons.....It would be nice to have zippers on the inner "deep" pockets, other wise a versatile jacket I would and have highly recommended to friends, families and peers.
Shout out to REI for beginning to introduce Tall sizing into their REI-branded clothing! The fit is absolutely incredible and actually goes past my belt line, which is a rarity for tall people like me. Also, I like that the inner collar is totally separate from the hood.. low-key giving off budget Arc'teryx vibes and at $60.. I'm all about that!! Love that it has pit zips, packs down reasonably small into pocket when traveling, also if you don't want to use the hood, it conveniently rolls up under the collar with a small Velcro strap, super dope! Anyways, this jacket is Awesome for tall peeps, don't even think about it, just get it!!
much of my adult life dealt with being in the large and tall section, until I lost weight, and I went into the unknown section called 'medium tall'. I needed a new rain jacket, and I have never had one that has actually fit me correctly in my adult sizing until this one! I was completely satisfied with it's fitting. I haven't tested it's tearability, but when you know you can comfortably do layers beneath and it doesn't tear at all do to normal use, it is extremely satisfying. as far as my eye goes for the rest I haven't tested, nylon is an extraordinary substance, which much of this jacket is made of, including the entirety of it's cover. thank you so much!
I am working in Portland for a few months, so bought this in October. Haven't been in any downpours, so has worked ok. Went to Multnomah Falls two days ago in a steady drizzle and when I returned to the car and took off my "waterproof" rain jacket, my down jacket underneath was wet! Same yesterday at Cannon Beach in a steady, but light rain. This does not qualify as waterproof! I am a huge fan of REI products and wear them all of the time, but this is not one of them. I am returning it this week. Great windbreaker.
I'm 6'5" and 200 lbs. bought the MT, fits greats, very slim, long sleeves (even a bit too long, but velcro straps on wrists makes for easy adjustments). 100% waterproof. I wear this jacket as a shell when sailing and kayaking. awesome, lightweight, great for mild weather. its a windbreaker/shell. if you want warmth order an insulated jacket or wear a sweater. for the price and fit you really can't get a better jacket if your a tall thin guy.
The jacket worked well for at least a year. Now it's two years old and is no longer waterproof. I've had similar experiences with other laminated materials. They start to delaminate within a few years. It appears that we have to accept the fact that if we want a breathable garment, it will basically be disposable. The photo shows the delamination.
I searched far and wide for a jacket meeting my needs: Good ventilation, long arms, packable, stowaway hood, generally good-looking. This jacket hits all the marks. It held up well to a Nor'easter this past week but I should have worn another layer beneath it. The jacket is light, which is a plus in my book. The hood stows away easily and doesn't make the neck area bunch up as I have seen on other jackets. The pit vents are a little clunky and take a minute to open or close but work well if you extend your arm straight. I don't anticipate needing to open these in a jiffy in any case, so it's not much of a problem. This jacket has exceptional length. I am 6'8'' and the arms are almost too long, if you can believe it. This is rare in a jacket. For the price, this feels like a very high-quality jacket. I plan to use it for traveling as it looks fairly good with the hood tucked in and will handle inclement weather well. As an added bonus, it makes a hand travel pillow when tucked into it's own pocket!
Great waterproof shell. Everything you'd expect from a "house-brand" when that brand is REI. Its a basic rain shell that works. Has the nice pit zips and all zippers feel reliable, so far. Oddly, the L/Tall is actually a little too tall for me at 6-3, but not enough bother returning it. That's kind of shocking because I'm usually a perfect L/Tall. Would absolutely order again, if I, for some reason need two raincoats.
This is the first jacket I have ever had that the arms were not too short! Thank you so much for carrying a tall size. Very hard to find. FYI I am 6'6".
M Tall is not the same size as the M with longer sleeves, like I expected. It seems to be similar to a non-tall XL with longer sleeves.
