Perfect for our needs but freezes up easily

The perks.... It holds 4 pairs of skis and a snowboard. It comes with locks. Easy to install/remove. The downfall.... It is extremely hard to open with the smallest amount of frozen condensation. My wife and I installed and loaded the rack in the garage and under dry conditions. Just driving to the ski hill, it froze up with minimal condensation. See pictures. It took us 1.25 hours to get it open. My coworker has the same rack and it happened to him as well. We tried to use hand warmers.... no luck. What worked was my son repeatedly heating up the key and trying to open the lock. I will be carrying a lighter, hand sanitizer, and wd40 to help open it up next week. It was wasted time, not on the slopes. All the Thule racks around us opened immediately and those people went skiing/snowboarding.

Catastrophic Failure

Looks great but it broke and dumped my skis on the highway going 60mph. I bought it because I liked the aerodynamic appearance over the Thule. It turned out to be harder to take on and off of my Sequoia and I had it configured with the back edges elevated to handle the snowboards when one of the back feet broke on the highway and dumped $2500 of skis and boards on the highway. I think Yakima makes good stuff but their ski racks are a no go for me forever.

Best brand to match my Yakima roof rack!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The FatCat EVO roof rack is an absolute game-changer for ski and snowboard enthusiasts! I’ve been using the EVO 6 for my skis, and it’s incredibly secure and easy to use. The sleek design not only looks great on my car but also holds my gear firmly in place, even at highway speeds. Loading and unloading are a breeze with the simple and efficient mechanism. Plus, it’s super versatile—I can fit up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards, making it perfect for group trips. If you’re in need of a reliable and stylish roof rack for your winter adventures, the FatCat EVO is the way to go!

Very Disappointing

Bought it fall 2018 installed on 2019 Subaru ascent, most of the time carried 3-5 skies. Eventually had enough and returned it to REI. The main issues I had are: (1) lock get stuck with ice all the time, and I don't talk on extreme conditioned - happened on regular basis at Crystal and Snoqualmie. Very frustrating to have your skies stuck in the rack. I learned to carry a lighter - but still annoying. Never had this issue with by other non-brad much lower cost rack. (2) rack tend to roll a bit on the car cross bars, what make it hard to close, especially with 4 or more skies. Wasn't a big deal for me, but my wife and 18 y/old son found it very hard.

Easily installed & holds securely. Whistles.

This easily installed rack held our skis securely (no worries at all) during our 8 hours driving round-trip excursion. Easy to open, easy to secure. This rack whistled like mad on the return trip when we racked 2 pair of skis in below-freezing temperatures. Not a subtle either - nail-grating and loud. Several efforts at repositioning made little or no difference. Move skis closer together? No. Further apart? No. Further from the ends of the rack? Closer to the ends? Separate out each ski rather than rack in pairs? More forward or back in the rack? All no. The whistle finally faded as air temperature climbed above freezing.

Exactly what I wanted!

I love this ski rack!! It's perfect in that it can accommodate so many skis and snowboards when going to the slopes with friends and family! Not only that, but I think it also looks very slim and nice, compared to all the flat and tall racks I've seen on other cars. Figuring out how to install it took a little bit, but honestly now that I know how to do it, it's only gonna take about 5 minutes to put on and take off in the future. Other reviews mention that the lock gets stuck, but that's easily avoided by making sure the skis don't put pressure on the lock. If you press down to lock/unlock, there's no problems. I was recommended this from a friend, and I'll recommend this rack to anyone in the future!

Don’t believe the bad press

I’ve put together many a ski rack, and while this rack a little difficult at first, but after one it’s easy. It’s rock solid, super sturdy and sleek. Don’t see how it could’ve fallen off a roof unless you didn’t install it correctly.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm so completely impressed. This brand has quickly become my new go-to ski and snowboarding appliance brand. The installation was so easy, and the skis clip and lock right in! Definitely recommend trying these out!
