Makes carrying kayak in truck easier
I've had this rack for a month now, and use it frequently to carry two kayaks in the 6.5' bed of an F150. It is a great rack for the purpose. Mounting in the hitch receiver, its through bolt is threaded and pulls it in snug to reduce wobble. When mounted on an angle, it provides another almost two feet of extension beyond the flat tailgate, and shifts the balance for carrying long items so they do not try to tip out of the back of the truck. It is ideal for the 12' and 14' kayaks that I have. The rack easily supports the 80-110 lbs of the kayaks I carry (depending on which two I take out). Construction and quality are good. Ease of assembly is not bad. It is light enough for a single person to easily carry and install on a vehicle with a 2" receiver. The bottle opener fittings on the ends of the bars are novel - though who carries glass bottles to the water? The openings do make excellent lash points for securing cargo. The multi-position fitting on the rack allows for using the Longarm at various settings from bed height to vertical, depending on the drop of the vehicle's hitch receiver. The one shortcoming, is the 2" diameter hexagonal crossbar. It is too large to work well with any of the Yakima, kayak, or other attachments. Yakima says that most attachments will fit, but they really don't work well. Because of the shape, fittings are constantly rotating and do not remain in the position that one sets them. Better would be a 1/2" smaller diameter round crossbar, or some form of insert for the Yakima clamps to fit the shape of the bar and carrier attachments. Though I have Deckhand, Hullhound, and Hullyroller attachments for the rack, I may go back to a simple bar pad. (It would be nice if REI stilloffered the Yakima pad for the Longarm.) Attachments won't fall off, they just don't stay set on the angles that I need them. Yes, you can use the Longarm with its extender fitting, to carry boats at pickup roof level, but I'ven been trying for 90 days to get the extender and they are back ordered and hard to find. All in all, this is a great rack, for carrying long boats and other items in a short bed truck, or other vehicle. (Be sure to use the included red safety flag on the end of the load.) But I can't rate it excellent, because in spite of what Yakima says, it really does not work well with Yakima carrying attachments - they will mount, but rotate in use no matter how tightly they are clamped an do not readily stay in position on the large diameter hexagonal bar.

Bought this rack to work with my Retrax bed cover it works with my kayaks at the bed level and On top of the bed cover perfect combo .
