LOVE our new Kelty Pack
My husband and I love this pack. We recently purchases the Elite model and took it to Alaska hiking with our 1 year old. We hiked roughly 6 hours a day of very steep strenuous trails and the whole family stayed happy all day long. The pack has many ways to adjust the height, straps, weight distribution, etc and far more pockets for storage than other packs we had seen. Sunshade, pocket for water and big waterproof pocket for diapers/wet clothes were great. My husband remarked that it was still quite the haul to carry our 23 lb baby around for 5 days but this pack made it totally manageable. Our son was able to sleep when he wanted, and was so happy/ comfortable we had to remember to feed him :)
LOVE this pack
I’m 5’ and my husband is 6’5”….this pack adjusts to fit us both. My infant loves it and will nod off in it. Everyone always comments how happy he looks in it. I like that he’s not right up against us so he doesn’t get too hot. The sunshade is a necessity for my baldy. The storage is clutch. It’s a great space to set him down thanks to the kickstand. We use this thing everywhere…hikes, neighborhood walks, even taking the dog to the vet. It’s easier than a stroller sometimes!
Criteria Met!
Thanks to other's reviews, I bought this particular pack for my son and daughter-in-law and their first son (my first grandchild). My criteria were 1) comfortably adjustable for her (5'4") and him (6'0") and 2) folds nicely for a smaller space footprint in the car and storage. Happy to report that both criteria are perfectly met. They use it daily. Grandson is 5 months old and likes it better than the stroller! He likes the vantage point of being up high and looking around; eventually he falls asleep. And, there is an unforeseen benefit of it freeing up the adult's hands for holding the dog's leashes. Highly recommend!
Great Pack
I've had this pack for about a month now and used it on a handful of hikes. The storage capacity is great, and the child seat/straps are simple to use. Huge fan of the hip pockets. My only issue is the width of the shoulder straps. I think they need to be a half inch wider to more evenly distribute the weight across the shoulder/chest area. My chest measurement is 44 inches for reference and I can't seem to find a comfortable spot for the shoulder straps. Overall, I really like this pack.
Comfortable and functional.
This is such a nice bag. It fit both my husband (5'9") with broad shoulders and myself (5'5") with preference for women's specific gear for fit. I loved the storage (especially the wet bag area for the diapers the baby produced along the way) and sun shade was a must. The grab handles are awesome. We had to move on and give this to a friend because our kid's torso length grew out of what this pack can adjust for, she's only 27# - well below the weight limit, so that would be my only suggestion to look out for. Otherwise super comfortable and functional pack.
Quality Product, quality price.
We have used this pack on 5 trips since we purchased it (2 weeks ago). Everything from a long neighborhood walk to hiking in the high country. The design is solid and the storage is fantastic, only limited by how much extra weight you want to pack around. Our 8 month old is super comfortable in it and even falls asleep at times. Built in sun/rain shade is a must and Very convenient, others it was an extra attachment and could likely be forgotten as it’s not built in. Would highly recommend the Kelty to anyone looking.
Love the pockets!
My husband and I were having a hard time picking a pack. We went in the store and were both measured. My husband is 6'5 and I am 5'5 so we had a struggle finding one that would mainly fit him and be comfortable. We ultimately chose this one because of the storage capacity. When you have kids, you need all the pockets! This pack also has an option for camel back and we love that. My only complaint would be the sunshade is not tall enough. Maybe I just have a tall baby, but he does not like it up because it rubs the top of his head the whole time. I wish it extended higher a little more. He has been in the pack starting at 15 months and is now 18 months for reference.
Prop 65 on a Child Carrier Worries Cautious Parent
The backpack looks great. It's constructed well, and I'd love to use it to carry my big ol' baby while hiking. My hang-up is there's a nondescript Proposition 65 warning label. "Not a big deal," I said to my wife, "It's probably just polyurethane or something commonly used in outdoor gear and generally safe-ish. I'll just ask them for clarification." But when I emailed Kelty, asking what chemical(s) the pack has, they sent me a canned response about their compliance with "...all state and federal flammability requirements which are publicly available." The part that stood out to me, though, was "...to avoid providing confusing or misleading information to our customers, Exxel [Kelty's parent company] does not provide specific information regarding chemicals." Not the transparency I'd hoped for. Like, maybe I actually enjoy being confused by chemistry, so just give me the info already, you know? So anyway, now I can't help but assume it's PFASs, phthalates, or some other thing I don't even know about—it could be TCDD for all I know. I mean, I'm not saying it's something worse, but they're not saying it's NOT something worse. So what's a careful parent to do? Guess I'm carrying this little chunk in my arms. (Or maybe I'll just keep the backpack. Aside from the cancer and reproductive harm, it's pretty sweet.)
Comfortable for the toddler and many compliments
We love this backpack; this is our second season with it. Last year, we started using this backpack with our daughter around 6-7 months old doing some very short walks (practicing "tummy time" equlivant exercises). This year, we are doing extensive hiking - 5+ miles at a time. Our daughter seems so really enjoy it and finds it comfortable as the last few hikes, she has fallen asleep. The bag has a built in canopy which has been perfect to cover her from the sun and rain. Plenty of storage, fits all of mom, dad, and baby's gear. The kick stand is very helpful in keeping balance when popping her into the saddle. Fairly easy set up and size adjustments. I would recommend watching the video for reference and keep the user guide. Every time we take our backpack out, we always get a compliment of how cool it is and how lucky our daughter can ride in style lol
Not for this 5'2" gal
I was so excited to finally take this out for a spin, but I lasted about 5 minutes. I'm 5'2" and bought based on reviews and adjustability thinking it would work for both my husband and I. The torso length was just too big for my proportions and I could not get s comfortable, snug fit. I am bummed because I love the pockets, the grab handles and the built in sun shade. Those elements make me so bummed this won't work for me. not a deal breaker, but the zippers are also stiff and don't slide easily, and I wonder about their longevity.
