Portable sauna

I purchased this jacket about three months ago and, because I live in Oregon, it gets frequent use. It’s a good looking jacket and it travels well. The waterproofing works very well, however, there are two frustrating problems with this jacket that I can’t live with: It doesn’t breathe at all, even with the pits unzipped. When I take a hike in or out of the rain the inside of the jacket gets dripping wet, as does whatever I am wearing underneath. My guess is that there was some defective material that was used when this jacket was made. The other problem is that the zipper gets stuck frequently, both up and down, which is really annoying. Typically anything sold at REI is great, particularly if it is made by Patagonia. That said, I would stay away from this

Basic Raincoat - Good Buy if On Sale

Overall this is a fairly basic pullover raincoat. Generally speaking I think Patagonia products justify their price with the quality and materials they use, however this is a pretty bog standard rain coat and one of the few cases where I feel you are indeed paying a markup for the Patagonia logo on the breast. I got this for $44 on clearance, and it was well worth it. At full price though you'd be better served by a basic $30 coat from a Columbia outlet store. No difference in design or quality.

Great, but missing pockets

Really like the style and color. Fits very well and has kept me dry. Washed up nicely. Only complaint is that it doesn't have side pockets to keep your hands. It only has the kangaroo pouch up front for storage. Needs more pockets but I liked it too much to return.

Portable sauna indeed

I will second previous reviewer's headline summation. It's a very functional garment -- nice emergency rainshell that packs into its own anorak pocket. But don't plan to wear it while hiking/skiing or doing anything aerobic. I made that mistake on a cold/wet hike and sweated so heavily I literally got dehydrated from this garment's unique lack of breathability. Standing around in the rain, sitting in a boat, whatever, it'd be fine. But be advised.

Nice rain jacket

I bought this for my son who will be traveling abroad this winter. He wore it the same day it arrived and has worn it frequently since then. We bought the grey in a M, his usual size, and it fits great. Happy with this purchase.

Does it's job!

I bought this for my adult son, living in Maine, who said, "It is freaking dope. It sheds water and makes the Orono wind irrelevant."

Staying dry and warm

I really like this pull over rain jacket! It in zips enough to allow ventilation, while in my opinion the coverage is better than a full zip. I ordered a size larger to use over a down jacket without compressing it.
