There's a trick to keep the cover from sliding off
To those complaining about the cover sliding off, there's a trick that will prevent this most of the time. If you have a magnetic clip (or a clip of any kind) on your drinking tube, make sure the clip stays above the cover's clip. This will help keep the cover taut on the bite valve and prevent the cover clip from slipping up and down the tube. See the attached photo for what I mean.

Include the $.01 cap
I'm in total agreement with the 2 reviewers that Osprey should have included the cap with the bladders. Here's a message to Ospray: please send the cap to those of us who support your company by buying your products free of charge and make the cap part of your bladder system. it's not that difficult.

Perfect device

I love this cap! The tubing on my Osprey is so long that mouthpiece would sometimes fall into the dirt when I took my pack off and put it on the ground. This cap fixes that problem. It snaps onto the locking system of the mouthpiece and covers the entire mouthpiece. The tether fits easily fits on top of the tubing just below the mouthpiece and keeps you from losing the cap when it is off the mouthpiece. Then I have the magnet on the tubing below the tether. Works like a charm and keeps the mouthpiece clean!

Money Well Spent!

The cover worked great! Purchased this product specifically for hiking Kilimanjaro during the dry season, understanding the hike would be very dusty. Didn't have to worry as much about where or how I set my pack down during breaks or at camp and kept bite valve clean while hiking, as there was a lot of dust in the air. Handily, also keeps you from inadvertently activating the bite valve (e.g., accidently sitting on the bite valve releasing water in your tent). The cover was simple to attach to hose and cap came off easily enough to access water but not so loose it came off by itself.

I had to

...because it doesn’t come standard with this product. The absence of a 10 cent plastic cover left sand in my mouth every time I put my pack down on my trip on the North Coast Trail in northern BC. The wolves, bears & whales were awesome, but I cursed your product once every day because you never field tested it, or had some MBA pull you off course from its real world application. Product brand recognition - as great as your resevoir is, it is the butt of jokes now among serious hikers who have returned to Japan, BC, the arctic, Alaska & the UK. Just try it out next time - think of the consequences before cheaping out on the world you’re trying to make a name for yourself in. Honestly people.

Completely ineffective

The cover does not seal effectively-the fit is very loose. I got it to protect the bite valve from sand on my beach hikes in particular, and it did not perform at all. I will be returning, and do not recommend - a complete waste of money. I will try the Camelbak cover to see if it will fit - which I know works well. If it doesn't fit, I'm going to also return the Osprey bladder and start over with Camelbak.

It works, but should be a lot better

A necessity if you already have an Osprey bladder and you set down your pack anywhere dirty. That said, all the high and low reviewers are all correct - no it doesn't snap on over the bite valve very well, yes you can rig it to be more taught, yes when it "stays on" it keeps gunk out, no it's not as user friendly as it should be. This should be a set and forget piece. But it's bulky, hard to poke through the hose holes in backpacks, and when it's pulled taught to help keep it on it becomes hard to take off with one hand when you're biking/kayaking/whatever-ing. If you already own an Osprey bladder, then yes you should get this because it's cheap and what other option is there. But it's such a critical accessory for the activities I do that its fussiness makes me question if I should have gone with another hydration system brand altogether. All for a $5 piece of plastic. Engineer this better, Osprey!

More trouble than its worth

I bought this cap to keep the mouthpiece of hydration pack off of dirty surfaces. However, it doesn't click into place and falls off all the time. I find myself going to get a drink and the mouthpiece being covered in dirt and sand. I'll wipe it off and then put the cap back on, only to find out that the cap is full of sand and dirt. This seems to happen every time. If the product clicked into place, it would be much more useful. I would not buy it again.

Should be included in original design

I think a cover is extremely necessary for hiking, and agree that it should be included withe the osprey hydration pack. Since it was not, I decided to purchase it. The rubber connector broke as I was putting it on, and because the cap is slightly loose it cap fell off and was lost within ten minutes of hiking.

Does it's job

It covers and protects your bite valve. It's well made with no obvious issues I see so far. My main complaint with this is it seems awfully expensive for a bite valve cover...
