Great for Wet and Cold Weather
These boots are quite warm and grip very well on wet surfaces. I kept them on for all 3 days of the ferry ride from Bellingham to Juneau during some quite wet and chilly weather. The boots held their grip quite well on the exposed deck surfaces and especially going up and down flights of stairs constantly. They are quite warm So far, they have held up very well to the wet and cold of SE Alaska. The reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is the fit. I found the boots to be a little loose over the top of the foot, causing me to have to lace down tightly thus compressing the lower rubber of the boot making the area on the sides of the foot feel a bit open. This could probably be mitigated with a thicker sock but due to the warmth, I've personally stuck with thin ones.
Not a Durable Boot
I'm a track and field coach. The black boots were purchased in May of 2019 for the following track season primarily because they were on sale. The plan was for me to wear them during the cold, rainy months while out and about at track meets. With that said, I didn't wear them until January through roughly March of 2020. I wore them again January through March of 2021 and that's when I started to see damage forming on the left upper part of the boot. I truly only wore these boots a grand total of 6 months. I thought for sure they'd last longer than that without the boots developing damage. I think you'll see they weren't worn much by looking at the minimal wear on the sole of the boot (pictures are attached). All in all, I conclude it's not a very durable boot.
Good boots - Read reviews on sizing
Sizing: First and foremost, check the reviews on sizing. I usually wear a 9.5 and planned to jump up a half size for wool socks. After reading reviews, i went with the an 11 (.5 + 1) and am feeling like they're about right. Size: It might be that i'm just not used to insulated boots, but these feel really big. Not big in terms of the shoe size, big in terms of just overall size. You're really stomping around in these things. With that said, they don't feel heavy. Color: The color in the product photo isn't very accurate. In the attached picture you can see they're more chocolate than leather. Warmth/Quality: So far, they've kept me plenty warm in 15-30 degree weather but i haven't been out in anything colder than that yet. They seem to be good quality, but I've only warn them a handful of times.
Warm and waterproof through snows and streams
To test this product, I thought I'd put it through one of the most rigorous activities going on right now in the Montana Rockies - archery elk hunting. I typically wear a waterproof hiking boot. The Cheyanne II Lace Duck Boots excelled in all aspects. I was concerned it might lack the support of a heftier hiker, but the Sorel boots provided ample support while remaining comfortable in the areas that rub hardest - the ankles, the edges, and the along the top bones of the foot. We have had snows that have come and gone and temperatures well below freezing. These boots stayed warm through it all, hiking miles in the snow, sedentary stands calling in elk, and crossing ice-laced streams. The waterproofing is beyond any I have experienced in other "waterproof" boots. Even in depths reaching near the top of the boot, water did not seep in through the tongue, which I thought might be a chink in the armor. I was wrong. The water barely left a wet mark on the leather uppers. The sole of the boot is strong, but not stiff, which allowed me to feel the ground below my feet while stalking through the forest; plush enough to provide comfort and cushion, yet flexible enough to feel and avoid branches and logs under the snow - obstacles that can trip one up but also snap and break the still silence. Back in town, the boots are a comfortable walker and certain to provide warmth and comfort through adventures, and commuting, in the harsh winter months that lay ahead.
Classic Style - Nothing New
The classic style is nice but function is limited. They are good for cold wet situations. The water resistance is great up to the leather but not much beyond. They do breath well and can be warn for long periods of time without keeping moisture on the inside. While shoveling snow or making the way through wet soft ground these boots are great. They are not great over hard ground or rough terrain. The soles are not very thick or stiff and rocks or edges were easily felt through the insoles. The traction on the soles is not very deep or great with ice. The heel cup seems to dig into my Achilles tendons when walking downhill. Would not recommend for hiking. They have been comfortable and fit normally for my size.
Warm and Dry
It's not been the best weather for testing these boots out, but for the most part, they are as advertised. First impression was the fit was a little small. The length is just a touch smaller than I normally wear, and they are more narrow than the Salomon boots I normally wear, mostly across the toe box. It's barely rained since I've had these boots, but from what I have worn them, the waterproofness has been very good, and they are quite warm, but I haven't overheated when wearing Smartwool socks under. Overall, I wish I had tried on a half size bigger, but that's the perils of online shopping. Otherwise, they're good boots.
Very toasty toes
Very clean Construction and quality materials very warm with the insulated upper what does run about a half size smaller before accounting for thicker socks
Not well made
These aren’t well made. They cracked to the top in several places. These had minimal use
You're gonna need a bigger boot!
The boots looked as expected upon arrival, decent, but only spent about 2 minutes outside of the box. I noted prior to purchase that other reviews said the boots run small. I normally wear a size 10. With that warning I would have ordered 12, knowing I'd want this type of boot loose and with room for big socks. 11 was the largest available, and the price discount was good, so ordered the 11 and took my chances. My foot barely got into the boot with the thinnest of socks on, front of the boots were ready to tear off my toenails. I think I would need a size 13 or 14 to make me happy in this boot. Beware! Buy at least a couple sizes larger than your "real" shoe size.
At 13 months, the rubber parts are cracking
This is a nice pair of boots - worked really well ... for one season. At 13 months after purchasing, the rubber portion on top is cracking (so it's not an issue of wear and tear). The boots were used for 4 months Nov 2019-Feb 2020. Winter came late this year, and I just started using them in Dec 2020. I noticed the crack today. Sorel and REI only has a 12 month warranty, so I am one month too late for a warranty. So, I paid $150 for boots that only last one season. Bad.
