A well done hiking shoes
I bought a pair more than a year ago. I have been using it on several major hiking such as Appalachian trail, Big bend national park, Ouachita trail and have been using it at least 4 to 5 hours each week on the city trails. Very comfortable and reliable. It has a very good grip and tick enough at the bottom to not let you feel the rocks on the trails. It really is waterproof. I was surprised when hiking during the rain at AT. It was so good that a month ago, I bought another pair on sale at REI.
Decent Boot...especially when on sale :)
I bought a pair of these over last winter when they went on sale for $110. They were going to be mainly used for snow shoeing but alas the weather in Massachusetts didn't cooperate. Instead I have been breaking them in at F Gilbert Hills State Forest and I am quite happy with them. Although wearing them hiking yesterday, the left boot got water in it but that may have been my error. Overall I am quite happy with them. The only issue I did have was with the first pair, something was digging into the top of my ankle so after the 3rd time of wearing them, I returned them. the 2nd pair don't have this issue and fit nicely.
Sorel Winter Boots
Really like these boots but would have really loved them if they had a ledge on the back of the heel so a snowshoe strap would stay in place. Bought them anyway because they were extremely comfortable--more so than 3 other boots I tried. Plan to use them for a trip to Alaska where I will not be as active as normal so warmth and water resistance won out. Pretty much true to size as what I would normally buy where a semi-thick wool sock would be used. And go by Euro sizing and not USA. I chose a 44 and I fit 44-45. This converted to a larger USA size than I normally would wear. I like the direction Sorel went with this model and was surprised that I chose this over a more typical boot. It does have legitimate insulation that should make it warm.
Does not keep feet warm
I needed boots to walk from the train to work each day In the winter so when I saw these at Rei and they claim to be waterproof and warm to below zero I quickly bought them. Well I had them a few weeks and then it finally snowed. I was excited to wear my new sorrel boots. My feet were frozen by the time I got to work. I have worn them a few time since and have to wear 2 pair of socks which does not help much at all. I had heard that sorel was the best boot out there and I am very disappointed. I can't return them now and can't afford anew pair of better boots this year but I plan o. Giving them to goodwill in the spring.
-40 rating is a complete joke
The box says these are rated to -40. That is incredibly irresponsible. On a windy day where you aren't in the sun you could lose a toe in +10 degrees in these things. I tried on one on my left foot while wearing my summer boot with no insulation on my right foot just to compare (in about 25 degree weather) and both my feet got cold at the same rate. It claims to have 400 grams of insulation but it's thinner than other boots with only 200 grams of insulation. Perhaps they put all the insulation on the bottom??? The shoe is heavier than a lot of other 200 gram insulation boots.
Great for the price
I picked these up during a spring sale for about $75 and I'm QUITE pleased with myself for doing so. I needed a new pair of waterproof winter kickers and these fit the bill nicely. They're tough as you'd expect a Sorel sole to be, the laces are really grippy, the leather feels great to the touch and looks slightly less orange than the picture portrays. They seem to run about a half size tight due to the insulation, keep this in mind when purchasing.
Not warm and rubs
I have had countless Sorel boots and loved them. I wanted to love these but just can't. The first couple times I wore them they were great but after that, my feet froze and hurt, a lot. I expected these to keep my feet warm at 20 degrees (which is warm here) but not even close. And after wearing them a couple times, they rubbed and pushed on my ankle bones and the area above that causing so much pain I had to give up on them. I do NOT recommend.
Great shoes!
Awesome shoes! I did mount Shasta wearing them, kept me totaly dry and warm. I also had crampons on them, no issues at all. Also, I wear them for summer hikes. A little bit warm, but still very comfortable. Love them!
Very satisfied
I used these for quite a few hikes off trail this winter, and a couple of snowshoeing hikes. They give enough support, yet still allow you to feel what's underfoot, if you are trying to sneak up on a critter to snap pictures. I was looking for just that mix, of not twisting my ankle while walking on leaf covered rocks, but still able to sense sticks and loose stones under my foot. Also the non-protruding sole doesn't catch on branches. I've also found that I can wear a range of sock thicknesses, from normal to medium to medium heavy, all with the same boot. My feet don't usually get cold, I didn't feel like they were sweating in these, and were warm and toasty almost all the time. I walked through puddles and trickles without water penetrating. Would recommend for off trail and not too deep snow (or use snowshoes and gaiters) winter, spring, and fall. Were fine at 60 deg F, and at 15 F. Didn't have them out in anything colder, this season.
Great boot...Great Value
I bought this boot for a 3 day trip to Colorado for some hiking in wet weather & snow. With minimal break in ( virtually none) these boots performed very well. My feet usually get cold but with a mid weight wool sock they were toasty in 30 degree wet weather. Grip on the trail was excellent on snow and slush too. They are light weight as well which is something I really need. These were a great value at $160.00 and a steal on sale at $110.00.
