These are the first snowshoes I’ve owned, so I don’t have anything to compare them to, but I like them a lot. They’re easy to put on and stay secure. The heel lift is great for steep terrain.
I bought the MSR Women's Revo Ascent snowshoes after I'd finally worn out my Atlas pair after 15 years of use. I was looking for a shorter, more lightweight, quieter pair by comparison. I hike on varied terrain, from well-worn snow trails to deep powder, flat or moderate elevation gain trails to steeper ascents. Right out of the parking lot this model's primary flaw was clear — they are the lowest snowshoes I've ever experienced. Someone in my group had another model of MSRs that were quiet as can be, so it's specific to this model. Otherwise, the price, bindings and weight and length were what I'd hoped for.
Unfortunately these are noisy and uncomfortable - after two miles felt like I was walking on cement. The bindings are great - feels secure and are easy to adjust. Traction isn't the best - found myself to slide a lot going downhill even with my crampon positioned as best as it could be. I'll be returning these and paying the extra money for the Lightning.
I finally had enough snow to try them out this weekend. Taking them on and off is easy, and using them was pure delight! I now have something to do during the winter!
