Excellent Bike For Adolescents And Young Teens

My 12 year old son is between sizes. Too big for kid bikes, but not big enough for adult bikes. I was about to give up when I discovered the Co-op Cycles DRT 1.0 Bike. Perfect for people between 4'6" and 5'0". My son loves it. It's a great step up (with the 26 inches wheels), but he can still control the bike. It fits him like a glove. The bike is well constructed and has nice components (gears and disc brakes). It shifts and steers well. We like to mountain bike together on our local single track trails. There is a lot of climbing. With this bike my son has climbed steeper hills and even passed adults who had to walk their bikes. Best of all, my son rode this bike all the way to the top of the mountain (3 mile trail with 950 vertical feet) for the first time. He was so proud of his accomplishment and still smiles when we talk about it. On the descent the disc brakes slowed him down and gave him the confidence to ride faster yet in control. I highly recommend this bike.

Great choice for my 10-year-old

We purchased the DRT 1.0 in XS size for our 10-year-old and are confident it will give him plenty of room to grow in the next couple of years before moving up to the next size. The bike is solidly built with good components and feel like it will stand up to hard use. It's an investment, but he loves the bike and it is getting him out on the trails and road so it's worth it!

Great bike for 10 year old boy

Picked up the DRT 1.0 last week as a birthday gift for my 10 year old son. He’s 4’ 10”, 92 lbs and has been riding a 24” bike for at least 2 years. So the obvious question was would he fit on a 26” because it didn’t make sense to put him on a new 24” that he would outgrow in a year. I also I didn’t want a bike that would be too large for him to handle. In any event, I made the right choice. The DRT 1.0 comes with an XXS frame and he is able to plant both feet almost flat on the ground with the seat at its lowest position. so we raised it just a bit and took it for a spin on the tow path on the Delaware River in New Hope, PA. He loved the ride, adapted to the larger bike in no time and we ended up doing a 20 miler first time out. Gears shifted smoothly and the hydraulic brakes worked great. I thought the handle bars might be too wide but he said they were fine. The 26” wheels made a huge difference vs the old 24” bike in terms of the pace we were able to maintain. The bike looks twice as nice in person. I was afraid the color was too light of a blue shade on the REI web site but it’s actually darker than it looks on line and it’s a matte finish. Also knew that I could buy from REI with confidence if there was any kind of issue with sizing or anything else.

I bought this for our 11 year old daughter. She was too tall for a kids bike and too short for a regular women’s bike. Austin at our local REI found this xx small co-op bike. My daughter loves it and rides it daily.
