crankbrothers  Double Shot 3 Pedals

My time riding on these pedals was unfortunately cut short but for the month of so I had them, riding my bike was much more enjoyable. I decided to join the clip-in world and began that adventure with these pedals. Reviews elsewhere recommended the Double Shot 3's over their predecessor, the regular Double Shot pedals. The main difference is that the DS3's allow you to adjust the traction pins plus a a more "matte" coating. The regular DS pedals are coat-sealed so the "traction nubs" on those are slick, which seems to defeat their purpose? I test rode the DS3s platform side around my neighborhood in sandals and TOMS, yeah my feet did not slip whatsoever. Once I got use to the clip-in side, these were a breeze to use for my short commute to work. Unfortunately some mega jerk stole my bike barely a month after installing these. I'd get them again if not for the price tag.

I have had these pedals two weeks and have already cracked the cast aluminum portion of the platform. I ride hard but not crazy and these pedals really should have been able to handle a couple of modest pedal strikes without actually cracking. Other than that, I love the 2-way design and the ease of entry/exit, but just not durable.

Great pedals. Flat side is so grippy you might think you are clipped in still. Clips are not for the beginner cyclist.

The pedals work well. I like the clip-in feature for most rides because I have positive control of pedal position for starts. The metal knobs on the reverse provide good grip if I can’t clip in, or if I wear street shoes. I had no problems clipping in or out, though my cleats were already broken in from prior use, and not brand new.

Excellent pedals. I expect them to last for years.

But after a couple of rides, they feel like a seat belt, your safe and in control on a new level. they are excellent easy to get in and out of.

Not sure what the market is for these pedals. I have always used Crank Brothers and put my mallets back on. The pedal broke on the second ride. Not the spindle but cage as I hit a rock with it during an uphill pedal. I had hoped I could use the clipless for climbs and transition to flat for downhill fun but they are not very robust and take no damage.

I had high hopes for these hybrid pedals, but the non-standard clip in system requires you to clip both front and back, and it was so difficult to get in and out of that I returned them after one ride.
