Looks and works GREAT!
Love it, love it! It does everything it is supposed to do and looks great doing it! Very stable when driving even over rough roads. Very pleased with the purchase! It takes some skill to assemble but can be done if you are handy with tools. The included cable locks could be longer but manage to secure the bike from casual theft. Though it may be obvious, some people are surprised that the backup camera is obscured and the collision warnings sound constantly whenever you go into reverse. This is never mentioned in reviews so maybe everyone knows about the problem. Anyone relying on the camera to get out of home parking places or when parking in general be warned!
Super easy to load and very sturdy
This is my 2nd Küat rack I’ve owned. 0 issues so far. The only reason I sold my Sherpa is because I bought a new downhill mountain bike which has a much longer wheelbase (48 inches). They are very easy to assemble. Extremely easy to load and unload bikes as well as very stable when transporting.
Kuat Hitch bike Rac - best one on the market
I LOVE this rack. It carries my recumbent bike as well as my wife's road bike
Solid Build, Painful Assembly Instructions
I installed the BASE 2.0 today. Although I liked the solid feel, I was a little confused about plastic components on the ends, I hoped they would of been rubberized more. I tested it out by putting both bikes on it, and it seems very stable. Excited to use it more. The integrated locks and cables are nice, but I wish the cable length was about 5-6 inches longer and the thickness of the cable was double of what it is now. I imagine this could be cut through very easily. On the CON side, the assembly booklet would make IKEA instructions in Swedish look like a cake walk. I called support, they directed me to the videos.....I watched the limited videos on the site and KUAT's YouTube channel. They all are not done very well. In addition, there is NOT a specific NV 2.0 BASE video. You kind of have to watch the NV 2.0 video and remember that you don't have the same parts. Also, side note, if you are like me and like to lay everything out in advance, please note the nuts are ON the bolts already....and not in a separate bag (that wasted 5 minutes of my time). I like that they were, but it would be nice for them to have a note of that in the inventory layout in the manual. As far as product grade? B+ solid. Instructions and Assembly support: D- to F. I hope they improve that.
Fantastic fit, build quality, and ease of use.
This is an absolutely perfect fit on a Land Cruiser (2016-2020). The rack will have just enough space for the tailgate to fold down with the rack in its normal carrying position. It also aligns perfectly vertically along the plane of the trunk so that you can continue to slide things in and out easily. Finally, it even aligns perfectly with the folded up tailgate when the rack is also folded up as well. So, this really couldn't be a more ideal fit for this vehicle. The only downside is that when installed the rear rack will decrease your departure angle from 24 degrees (for the stock model) to about 18 degrees. The rack is easy to install and easy to operate. The construction feels solid and does not wiggle when tightened properly. This is a short term review and I can't speak to how well this rack holds up over time.
Does what it says on the box
This rack is not light, find somewhere at ground level to store it because you do not want to schlep it up and down too many stairs. The cam mechanism to help reduce wobble on in the receiver functions well and should keep sway to a minimum while traveling down a rough road. Assembly is reasonably easy - use the box to help support the arms while they're being installed. The arms are long enough to carry my Enduro and fit a variety of tire sizes, from road to fatbike. I particularly like the option to add and remove capacity easily with the tray extender.
This thing is a beast!
Just received it today! Easy to put together, easier with two people but manageable alone. This rack is super sturdy, and extremely well designed. The build quality is excellent, the powder coat black has a satin sheen to it and looks like it will hold up and protect the rack for a long time. First impressions hooking it up to the hitch, there is a ball on the hitch insert that helps lock it down when you tighten it down with a twisting knob. This thing does not budge! I was concerned with wiggle or play on the highway with other racks, but after seeing a YouTube review about this feature I was sold. The other feature that sold me was the ability to tilt the rack to open the rear hatch of the vehicle with bikes on it. Tested my 29er enduro MTB and my road bike and they are on there solid. No play or wiggle. The locking arms do no rub or touch the bike frame or fork which was another big requirement for me. This is my first Küat rack coming from Thule and I am extremely satisfied. Thule is a great brand but Küat takes the cake on this one. Looking forward to eventually getting the 2 bike add-on.
integrated bike lock give consumer false security
i thought when i bought this that the integrated bike lock was a snazzy feature that i could use when running in to grab a coffee or something. 5 minutes or less. I walked out of the store the other day to find two bike thieves cutting the locks and stealing both my bikes. I chased one down and knocked him off the bike. He went to jail. the other thief got away and I lost my santa cruz bronson. Kuat has it in there ability to design a locking arm mechanism or something of the sort that is not easily cut by thieves in less than a few minutes. other customers ignorant to the flimsiness of these locks might think it safe to use these and lose thousands of dollars and access to their sport like I did. Kuat should not even provide these as they are a false sense of security. design something better
Sturdy
Solid product. Light enough for a single person to handle the installation but heavy enough to give you confidence in its construction. The hitch crank, which really tightens the unit up, is a great feature I have never seen on a rack, and it works great. Bikes are easy to get on/off and the integrated lock is a nice touch; it may not be the most impenetrable lock, but a deterrent all the same.
Solid good looking rack..
I was between the Kurt Base, and 1UP rack. I found enough good stuff to make a case for either rack, but I liked the mat black finish and overall look of the Kuat plus I could use my REI annual membership dividend to get some $$ off. So here goes! Kuat rack is heavy, but makes me feel secure about having a few thousand worth of bike sitting on it on the back of my car. Assembly was a little tricky, but more so because I did it solo. It is an easy 2 person job once you figure out that the bolts that hold the trays to the rack go in opposite direction of each other and the instructions aren’t clear about that. This is my first hitch rack, so was a little nervous getting up to speed as the rack does ‘wobble’ in the hitch a little, even with the adjustment knob that I thought would hold it a little tighter. Once I got used to having it back there, it was all good and I felt confident that the bikes weren’t going anywhere. I did use a couple of straps to hold the bikes on a little tighter, and I would do that again. I had read some reviews about tires going soft and bikes falling off, but the straps made me feel better. Also got the straps at REI! They are the Voile straps and I HIGHLY recommend these too! WIll come in handy for many things. Back to the rack...although I have only used it twice, I’m happy with my purchase..secure hold and looks great on my lunar rock RAV4 TRD!
