The perfect bike bell
Bought this a month ago. Had to return it for the small size. Was looking for a bell that would blend with my Rat Rod cruiser but that would be right at home on my Felt MTB 29"nr if needed. The bell is elegant and sounds audible with a windsicle chime!!
Takes up minimal space - BUT should be louder
There's lotsa stuff mounted on my Trek Madone handlebars - computer, map/ride slip clips, etc. - with little room left over for a bell. The Knog Oi at least fits somewhere between everything else. And in the store it sounded loud enough. But out on the local river trail or elsewhere in traffic it had trouble truly sounding off against the ambient noise. Works best with repeated ding-ding-ding-ding-dings and used well in advance of getting close behind pedestrians/other riders. Recommended only with due consideration for its limitations.
Great bell that takes up little space
I've had this bell for a few weeks now and am very pleased with it. Installation is the classic pry it open to squeeze over the handle bars, which always makes me fear I'll break the thing, but the Oi bell slipped on fine. I did make the mistake of over tightening it which greatly reduces the ringing noise and was initially not happy with the sound. But after checking their site I loosed the screw and boom, perfectly working bike bell. I give it one or two rings and people a good 40 feet away perk up and move out of my way (or rather, they do the weird shuffle of 'oh no which side of the path should I move to?!?'). I love how little space this bell takes up on my handlebars and I think it looks really cool. Great product!
It works only under a perfect condition
This bell critically relies on two small metal suspension springs that keep the outer band away from the inner band. In my case, one spring decided to quit. Then the sound became muffled because the outer band is in touch of a small piece connected to the inner band that is supposed to hold the spring but be separated from the outer band by the spring. Even if everything is in a perfec shape, it is still muffled in on rainy ride when there are water drops on the outer ring. When other reviewers complain about its small sound, it is most likely because the outer band is in touch with something else (the brake cable, for example).
Broke after just a few rides
Spring twisted then it broke. Here it is in my hand.
Not durable
Snagged the striker on my sweatshirt on my first ride with this bell. The spring is sprung and won't return to its original position... Very disappointed...
Broke after two rides
Broke after two rides, not very loud. Need to return it.
Not durable for mountain biking or kids.
Having purchased two of these at different times for different bikes, I can say they didn't last long in either case. The spring became deformed on both of them, and therefore the bells ceased to work. I am generally considered to be pretty careful with my gear compared with my friends, and it's not a great sign that even I wasn't able to get very many rides out of these. Maybe the design of the deluxe Oi would solve the issue. I'd spend my money on a Timber or Spurcycle if I were you. I have one of each of those as well, and they are great. The Timber in particular gets lots of compliments on the trails from other users.
Not bad
It's cool for its profile but not a very loud, i get the concept of keeping it pleasant so people know your coming but in a city environment, pleasant doesn't get people to notice you, I am keeping it because it does work in quieter environments, just don't expect to be doing 25mph and ring the bell and they know your coming, you have to be fairly slow while passing and ringing the bell. I was going to give it a 3star but I do love the design so gave it 4, 5 would have been, I can really hear this thing at least half a block away with some speed in city environment.
Discreet bike bell.
Works as expected. Little difficult to mount. Almost wreck it putting it on. Not very resonant.
