Solid lock, but pricey
When I first received the lock I was shocked at how heavy the box was... that said, once I had it around my waist, it was very comfortable (and I'm a little chubby) and didn't feel heavy at all. I've always used a U lock for my bike, but honestly, after a couple of weeks of using the hiplok, I don't have any strong feelings either way about this product. It's innovative and secure, but double the price of some decent U locks.
It's a bike lock, and it works
This is a burly lock (with the safety rating to back up the feel and appearance) and it certainly locked my bike securely. I really wanted to like the Hiplok; it's comfortable to wear and is a neat idea. However, the more I used it, and with different backpack configurations, I couldn't convince myself I liked it better than the locks I already own. I think whether this is the right lock for you comes down to your specific use conditions. I typically ride with a backpack, and with one of my packs that sits higher on my back the Hiplok worked well, but with my bike commuting specific pack the pack's internal frame and waist belt conflicted with the lock. Riding with panniers the lock was comfortable on my hips; however, with that configuration, I'd rather strap a U-lock to my rack and not have the weight of the lock on my person. My other gave the lock a few test commutes and agreed it was pretty comfortable to ride with (didn't interfere with her backpack) and pointed out it would be nice for commuters who don't wear a belt to slip their U-lock into for carrying. I can see where the length and flexibility of the Hiplok chain might help if you aren't always able to lock to a bike rack and typically need to lock to large objects. I found the floppiness of the chain to be cumbersome; it just wasn't as easy to pass the Hiplok through wheel spokes or chainlink fencing. For sizing, I have a 29" waist and 36" hip measurement. While the lock says for waist 28"-44", it sits on your hips as the name implies. I had to keep the lock as small as it would go and even then felt it would slide down some and bump into my legs as I pedaled. If you're on the small end of the size range, I would recommend trying it on first or buying somewhere with a good return policy. In summary, it's not a bad product and I would recommend it for someone whose use scenarios require the Hiplok's features. I just never found myself in a situation during my normal commuting where I'd rather have the Hiplok over a nice U-lock.
Convenient lock for urban biking
Makes it easy to use the bike around town. Is comfortable to wear even if a little heavy. But seems to be well made and very secure !
Amazing
Never thought I’d review a bike lock but here we are. It’s comfortable to wear and easy to use. I have taken it on a couple 50+ mile rides around town making cafe stops and forgot I was wearing it till it was time to lock up my expensive bike. I can’t attest in certainty if it is secure as I’ve never had it tested but there’s plenty of YouTube videos of people trying to cut through them and the lock putting up a fair fight until it succumbs. Overall for being a wearable lock it’s an amazing piece of gear and incredibly worth it for commuting or around town rides.
Great bike lock.
Went to Anza Borrego a couple of weeks ago. The lock worked out great. After adjusting for a better fix, no issues and very secure.
Well made and beautiful lock
Just arrived today, so I haven't used it yet. It's heavyweight and appears really well made. Looking forward to using it! The reflective material looks nice and bright.
