This pack was super lightweight compared to my other backpacks. I purchased it for biking to work. I got the XS/S as I was 5'3" and the torso fitted both XS/S and S/M. However, when I got it, even after adjusting the harness, it still sat too high on my hips. So you need to try it on. The pack has clever compartments and soft velvety straps that were very comfortable. The hip belts are also a rare find in this size of pack so glad to see Osprey offer it. Another note is the XS/S is actually 18 litres in capacity (as opposed to 20 in the title). I could fit my 15" MBP laptop, summer change of clothes + a very small lunch. I would struggle to fit winter clothes in it with the rest.
Was looking to scale down the pack a bit in warmer weather. Tried the maya 26- just didn't fit shoulders well but o/w great pack. Talon 18 didn't fit as well as this pack. Took it on a 12+ mile hike with no problem- carried 2.5 liters water, lunch, emergency stuff. The outer pocket is great for rain jacket and pack cover. Easy to access water bottles from the side pockets with pack on. I don't love the top zipper but it works fine. Great daypack for warm weather days!
Brought this for summer 80 degree day hikes in the Northern Cascades in Washington. Overall I was happy with it and held everything I needed it to while dispersing weight comfortably thanks to it's waist straps which pleasantly held a a reasonable amount of stuff (ie: a samsung galaxy 7 edge actually fit but pushed the netting to it's very limits enough that I was nervous about ripping it with one wrong movement). The side pockets were deep enough for water bottles and was a much better spot for large phones that I could reach comfortably myself. My biggest complaint was the ventilation. I SOAKED the bag with my sweat - the straps and my back were so wet that I ended up just keeping the waist strap on and leaving one shoulder strap off just to air out my wet back. The mesh "ventilator" on the bag is much too soft to actually allow for ventilation space and in reality just collapses against your back.
I purchased the XS/S in green, and I love it. It fits my torso perfectly (I'm 5'-2") and also snugly fits my 3L (extra large) blue hydration reservoir. I needed a new daypack, and decided on the Osprey Tempest in large part because of how much I love my Aura. This is my first day pack that settles its weight on the hips like a multi-day trekking pack, complete with padding on the belt. I thought this would be unnecessary for the light load of a day pack, so I'm surprised how much I like it. I could comfortably carry a small grocery run in this pack, but it doesn't feel unwieldy or overbuilt for lighter applications. Some of my favorite features from the Aura are also present in the Tempest. I love the quick access stretchy zipless front pocket for stashing a first aid kit where it will be fastest to access. The hip strap includes side pockets to access small items without taking off the pack. The back fabric is both cushioned and perforated for maximum breathablity. The mechanism for vertically adjusting the chest strap is sturdy, comfortable, and holds the adjustment well. The relationship of the top of the shoulder strap to the top of the pack is adjustable separately from the total strap length. There are other thoughtful features of the Tempest that are new to me. The small insulated zipper compartment at the top stashes snacks or sunglasses away from everything else. The specially adjustable helmet attachment point keeps your helmet secure when you lock up your bike without having to make room in one of the larger compartments. The only thing I would change is the mechanism for cinching down when you don't have much in the main compartment. There are no cinch straps at the top of the pack, and the ones at the bottom interfere with the quick-access side pockets. As mentioned I like to day-hike light, so I would be happier if I could cinch down the main compartment at both top and bottom without rendering any pockets unusable. Final verdict: pleased with this purchase!
This is the sweatiest backpack I have ever worn. I used it once, wearing the same hiking shirt/pants I always wear, on the same trail, at the same time I usually go wearing a fully packed Gregory J63. I was completely soaked, especially around the hip belt. Going to have to return this one. Who knew a tiny little daypack could be so hot?
I completed the Devil's Path in Catskills with this backpack - it was a super long day, I packed this backpack with 3L + 2 * 1L coconut water, snacks, lunch, dinner etc. At no point, I felt any weight on my shoulders, back or hips - it was evenly distributed and never felt the pack most of the time.
The pack fits me well -- easy to adjust fit (a compartment that slides up/down for accurate fit). Good, well-placed compartments. Water bottle, snacks, and phone easily accessible.
I own a Tempest 20 and a Tempest 30. Love these packs. Pockets on waist belt, accessible side pockets for water bottles and the little pocket on shoulder strap are all great features!
I love this pack. I hike and bike. It fits me well. It holds a water bladder. Just the right size to hold lunch, water and the layers I have to peel or add.
I bought this about a year and a half ago and I love it. I use it for everything from mushroom hunting to carrying my laptop around town. The stretch pocket on the front is one of my favorite features, it is super comfortable and I can hardly tell I'm wearing a backpack. It even held up to a thorough chewing from my dog when I left some treats inside! Definitely the quality I've come to expect from Osprey.
