Update to my review
We've now used this kettle a number of times and are very impressed. Wanted to update my review in regards to lack of a stuff sack like the smaller kettle. Get a 24"x0.5" velcro strap, run it thru the lid loop and around the pot and then thru the buckle that is snug up against the lid handle. Cinch up and the lid is now secure to the pot for travel. Keeps the lid snug to the pot with our GSI bowl and mugs with stove inside. We use this Redpoint one sold here at REI (https://www.rei.com/product/848430/redpoint-sport-wrap-package-of-2). This works way better than the bungee, rope, and rubber bands we tried.
Small but nice
Full disclosure, I bought this thinking it was bigger. Maybe it was the picture...but regardless this is a nice kettle for solo or two person camping. This will be a good addition to my kit and a fine replacement to the small kettle I have had for 30 yrs that has seen better days.
Saved our Trip!!
So I was exploring a new stove option thinking I could upgrade from our "old" canister system. I got this kettle for it's larger capacity to get enough water boiled for the 5 of us plus coffee, etc. Sadly our new nifty stove wasn't as fuel efficient as my backyard tests and we ran out of fuel half way through our trip. Did I mention this kettle saved our butts...I was able to build small fires and supported this guy between two rocks and kept us fully nourished. Given the experience I will be bringing this guy as my backup even when I switch back to my fuel sipping canister stove system.
Perfect for family of four
I love this kettle. It holds just the right amount of water for drinks or rehydrating meals for me and my three kids. It's light, and I can fit my Snow Peak windscreen, a 250g fuel canister, and a bunch of hot cocoa powder in it, saving space.
Off-Trail Workhorse
This little teapot was simply amazing on a recent trip to the Alaskan Arctic. We used it to boil snow, river and creek water, etc for dehydrated meals and drinking water. It performed perfectly. After we ran out of fuel, we just crammed this pot into the fire and boiled our water in there, it was easy to handle in the fire and the silicon handles withstood the heat perfectly. My pack was overloaded so I just clipped the pot to my pack where it clanked away like a giant bear bell and made me feel exceptionally hobbitish. Great product, get one.
Best Kettle For More Than One Hiker
This is my second GSI 1.8 liter kettle. It is near perfect size to serve 2 to 4 people with enough hot water for a large cup of coffee or tea, plus add water to a dehydrated meal, and still have enough water to rinse out your cups. You can store a fuel cartridge up to 8 ounces inside, plus a small stove like an MSR Pocket Rocket, with a scrub pad, small microfiber towel, and a small bottle of liquid soap. I got this second kettle to use for car camping, when using a larger propane stove on a sturdy table. The first GSI kettle is in my backpack, ready for my next trip.
All I Need for Kayak Camping
Bought this kettle prior to 10 days of kayak and car camping earlier this summer after I couldn't find my GSI Minimalist. Was really pleased with it. My stove, spork, and container of instant coffee all fit inside it, so it really doesn't take up a lot of space. It heats up quickly and easily heats up enough water for rehydrating a meal and a couple of cups of coffee. The coated handle and lid handle mean I can handle it without packing anything else. It then cools down quickly for re-packing. Am kind of glad I lost my minimalist.
Light weight, gets job done
I mostly use this for car camping and wanted a light weight kettle. It boils water quick and has good capacity. We use it to pour two coffees and two hot chocolates and are able to do it in a single boil. The lid needs to be held down at times and the little handle on the lid is dainty.
Camping dream!
I got this kettle with the intention of storing my camp stove & fuel inside of it, and the 1.8 liter fits both perfectly (with room for soap & a sponge if desired)! This kettle is durable, lightweight, and heats up water for a group quite well. I've only gotten a couple of uses with it so far, but I can't see any downsides of this kettle. I even used it at home as a regular kettle and was pleased with the result!
A versatile, lightweight workhorse
I used this camping recently and used this for everything from boiling water to cooking scrambled eggs. It heats up fast, is easy to wash and cools down fast (which is great if you need to pack up quickly). We submerged this thing in a very hot fire – it kept its shape and I was able to grab the handle with my bare hand with no issue.
