I bought these to replace a pair of Vasque boots that I'd had for several years and I loved but it was time for them to go... I ordered them and picked them up at my local REI and decided to put them on in the store to see how they felt — and they were immediately as comfortable as my old worn in boots with the added advantage of much better ankle support (I have an old ankle injury and need the support). It was a hot day and my feet didn't overheat in the boots and they stayed comfortable for the eight hours I had them on. The only minor negative I could call out on the boots is that I wish the laces were a bit longer but this is a very minimal issue as they seemed to stay tied much better than the flat laces on my previous boots. Highly recommend these!
I've owned a pair for about a year, and wear them every chance I get. They fit the same as a pair of Merrell running shoes I own, so online shoe shopping wasn't as worrisome as it could be. They broke in quickly and held up great on a 3 day, 54 mile hiking trip. The insoles are removable, and were replaced before I even put the boots on; a huge plus in my book. The only bit of weirdness is the left boot squeaks. Not every step, but the first few times, it sounded like I stepped on a mouse. It still happens on occasion, but I'll survive. You should get 'em.
These boots are some of the comfiest I have ever owned. The ankle support has lots of padding but will still stop your ankle from rolling all over the place. In the past, I've had problems with laces falling apart, but the laces on these are thick and durable. They're pretty breathable too, keep my feet relatively cool and dry on warm days. traction is awesome even on smooth, sandy rocks. I wear a size 14 shoe normally and bought the size 14 boots. Fits perfectly and leaves just enough room in the toe to make them comfortable going downhill but still snug otherwise. Highly recommend these.
I was surprised when I opened the box to find that what looked like ribbing over fabric in the picture of the boot was actually an imprinted sheet of synthetic, rubberlike substance. The sole is also very narrow compared to the usual boot. I was hoping to use this for snow but the narrow sole would not provide enough support to stay on top of the snow, or mud, and may be less stable on trails. I'll keep these for wet occasions, but I've already picked up another pair of boots for snow and mud. This may just be a case of getting what you pay for.
I ordered this discontinued boot online through the Garage, after trying on similar Merrell boots at my local store. The salesman was very helpful and suggested that I should have the boots sent to the store in case there were any issues with them. That was the best advice he could have given me. The boots arrived less than a week before my trip to Alaska. When trying on the boots one of the eyelets broke loose. The store, actually knowing the short time frame before my trip, ordered another pair and paid for next day delivery to my house. They also said if I had any issues with this pair that their store in Anchorage would be able to help me. That wasn't necessary, though, because these boots are great and I have had no issues with them . They fit perfectly and did a lot of travelling in Alaska. Thanks REI.
I've loved Merrell Chameleons for several years now, especially the low top Prime Stretch. Sadly they are discontinued but I ordered these for hiking in the North Carolina mountains as I prepare for much longer hiking in the Grand Canyon next Spring. As others have mentioned, these boots look different on-line. But they are comfortable, provide great ankle support, and have been perfect for hiking through streams and mud. Right now these are a great price, while they last.
Bought this about 2 weeks ago.. size was perfect, loved the boot itself... super comfortable right out of the box. Got-Tex is great waterproof yet breathable..
Bought one pair and was so impressed, I bought a second pair in another color. I've had Keen, Danner, and Timberland boots. These Merrells are the most comfortable, best supporting boots I have ever worn. Lightweight too.
These are my second pair of these boots, I wore the first ones out. I did get my money out of them.
I bought these to wear at a survival course this summer. They hardly needed breaking in.
