Outstanding tool set.
This little ratchet set is compact, light weight, strong and supremely functional! I am very glad I bought it. I used it today to disassemble my Richey Breakaway bike to prepare it for packing, and it this tool set made the job much easier than usual. Three small improvements would be fantastic, all related to "friction". Make the thumb wheel on the ratchet just a millimeter bigger in diameter and improve the surface friction for easier turning. Make the stem of the ratchet rough for easier handling, and also roughen barrel of the extension, as it is often convenient to turn the bit by the barrel rather than the thumb wheel or the ratchet handle.
I wish I would have had this for years!!!
I love this little kit. It is way smaller than I originally thought and has just replaced so many tools in my tool bag. I ride a lot, both mountain biking and bike packing, and I am always switching out tools and things to accommodate which bike I am riding and for which activity. This kit really doe away with that for the most part. I can now take this kit, a dynaplug and some sealant, a chain breaker tool and an extra link, and I know I am pretty much taken care of. It is very sturdy and well built. Does not have that quality that a lot of small parts have where they feel like they will break easily.
Great Idea, Some Flaws
Generally I love this set and recommend it to everyone who needs a multi tool. However there are a few recurring flaws that I am finding it hard to overlook throughout the years. 1. The bits like to fly out of the sleeves if the tool is missing. So say you want to keep the tool loaded with an M4 bit for easy access, I learned the hard way that you will soon have a bag full of free flying socket bits. I would love some way to keep the bits in place a little better. 2. These bits are rust city. If any kind of moisture appears in the place where your tool is kept, you will return in under a day to bits that are totally rusted over. it’s happened to me twice. I do live in the PNW which is wetter than other places, but the second time happened to me in Colorado after a rainstorm.
Yes, the ratchet fits in my Altoids box for EDC!
Very proud owner of this tool set! The ratchet and extension fit nicely in my EDC carry kit (an Altoids box) and I keep a few of the bits that I use most. I could probably fit the entire set in the box, but I have other tools that I personally prefer to carry as well. I especially like how the extension fits into either the ratchet OR on the end of the handle to give a little more leverage. It also fits my socket adapter so it's versatile all around. Don't leave home without it!
field tech
Field technician and mountain biker. Always looking for multifunction tools to carry on me to worksites. Came across this gem and it has nearly replaced my 1/4” drive ratchet set, as long as I can find 1/4” hex bits to replace the sockets. It’s small, and if I need more leverage to break loose stubborn fasteners, I just place the extension on the end of the handle to use as a cheater bar. Have not broken it yet. You can utilize two bits at once as well when you have a project with two different fasteners (one bit at ratchet end, and one bit at the stationary port at end of handle). Bought two for work, (one for base area, and one to throw into travel bag). Also have one in the mountain bike bag. Pick and choose what 1/4” bits I need and don’t need, why carry extra? I have been using my first one ALOT for over six months, and feels like it has only broken in not wear out. Love this little ratchet, simple design with great quality, that is hard to find these days
Not the best or the worst
I’ve owned this tool for six months and don’t hate it or love it. The concept is good and using it at home on my bike isn’t a bad experience. I was with a friend on the trails and a branch ruined his rear derailleur and he left his mulI tool home by mistake - I proudly pulled this out and after few tries-he asked if I had anything else to use I handed him my Crank Brother’s m19 and he disassembled and reassembled the part and was happy. So far this tool has been great when I’m not rushing and and need multiple sized bits. If I’m in a pinch or not sure which size tool from you need, it can be irritating when you want pull something out, is it go.
practical and well made, super useful mini toolset
I've bought and used many types of mini tools to carry on my bike(s), all of them have to make compromises to provide enough functionality, in the most compact design possible - to the point of loosing most all usefulness by being too small to provide enough torque, or shaped to clumsily to allow access to some parts of the bike, or being painful to use. Cheaper ones are poorly made, don't fit well the various bolts on the bike, leading to rounding up bolt heads, or messing up the thread. Enter Topeak Rocket Lite. It's very light (specially if you get rid of the pouch, and of bits you don't need on your bike), is very compact, and just plain works. Once you've used the ratchet, you won't want to go back... It is very functional, despite the small size - fine toothed, you don't have to move the handle very far for it to engage on the next step, so you can use it efficiently in confined space. There's a Goldylock-sized extension for the harder to reach bolts. It seems sturdy enough to let me put a sizeable amount of torque on it, to secure (or loosen up) the seat post bolt, for instance. Has all the basic bits you need on most bikes, but if you require some special one, you can add any standard 1/4" bit you want. The tire levers are just meh - workable on most tires, but not for the more stubborn ones. I consider them as bonus, the tool itself is what matter, i have my lezyne metal lever/15 cm wrench combo if i need to pull out the Big Gun. If you don't mind the few extra grams, the pouch is well designed, holds everything securely, making all the parts easily accessible, and is sturdy and well-made. It seems quite durable. I've had mine for over 6 months, and use it regularly, on the road as well as at home - it replaced my standard 3-headed Allen wrench (did i mention how lovely that ratchet is?) A bit pricey, but not that much compared to the high end tools - and none have that ratchet thing (did I mention how... ? I did? Yes, it's that gooood.) In conclusion: i've ditched all my other multi-tools for this one, and even use it at home. Highly recommended investment.
Almost the only tool you need
I love this tool, carry it on every ride and also use it to work on my bikes at home, almost to the exclusion of normal hex wrenches. The handle is nicely contoured and the ratchet action is intuitive and satisfying. I also love the in-line magnetic socket at the non-ratchet end - it's great for quickly spinning loose bolts in and out, or for just keeping a second bit handy when you're switching back and forth between two different sizes. It is a small tool, which imposes some obvious limitations. You aren't going to torque down a new cassette or break a seized pedal loose with this thing. If it seems too small for what you're trying to do, use a bigger wrench. But for the huge share of everyday maintenance tasks where you're just tightening and loosening fiddly little hex bolts, it works great. The ratchet especially shines when dealing with bottle cages and other tight little corners. I agree it would be nice if the carrying case had some way to secure the bits beyond the little elastic sleeves they fit in, but I haven't lost one yet, and I use this thing a lot. Just be careful if you're working in deep leaf litter or next to a river of lava or something. Bottom line: Buy it! It's worth every penny, and even more so if you get it on sale. P.S. I just want to mention that this tool is fantastic for putting together furniture from Ikea, Target, et al. It's all held together with metric hex screws, and this tool is far more ergonomic and fun to use than the cheap little Allen keys they give you.
you need this for your bike's toolbag
excellent small kit, with the bits you need, including torx.
So handy I bought a second one!
I purchased this tool for my Altoids tin a while back, and decided to get another one for a gift. The ratchet and extension fit in nicely along with several bits that I use. I don't use the other tools very often so they are relegated to my tool box--keeping on my person only what I use most of the time. Everyone loves it when I pull this thing out and start tightening a screw or a assemble-yourself-bookshelf. Really handy!
