Perfect tent light.
I use this as a light inside my rooftop tent and it's perfect. Throw it on the dash while driving anywhere and let it charge. I left it on throughout the night during the first use and woke up to it being 2/3 battery still.
A camping necessity!
I bought this for a backpacking trip and a week long paddle trip. I left it to charge in my yard for one day, and 2-3 weeks later, it's still fully charged. I love how lightweight it is, and how it comes with 4 lighting options. It packs down small, and you do t even have to use your mouth to inflate it, as you just hold the valve open and pull it apart. So far, so good. I also like the strap that can be hung in a tent or from a pack. The real test will be in two weeks when I bring it on Paddle Oregon during our total eclipse! Hopefully it will be as waterproof as it claims! For $20, this is a camping must.
Exactly what I needed
I bought this originally as a Christmas present for my daughter. It quickly became her reading light. Her brother always tried to steal it and I was pretty jealous too. The final straw was taking it out into the wilderness and the thing is even better than I expected. It is small enough to clip on the outside of her pack (and recharges) and yet powerful enough that we can clip it to the top of the tent and we can all read without separate lamps. Exactly what we needed and I will get more.
Cool little lantern
Bought this lantern for motorcycle camping, and it turned out to be very useful. It takes very little space, is usefully bright, weighs little, and doesn't need batteries. What's not to love? The only problem for me was exposing it to sunlight for the 7 hours it needs for a full charge - but if I were backpacking I could just hang it off the pack. Even at half charge if lasted long enough for my needs.
Almost Replaces a Camp Fire
This was a recommendation from our favorite Lakewood, CO REI employee. With the droughts and fire bans in place in Colorado, we now carry this little light to replace the camp fire. While it doesn't do quite as good of a job, it does keep people up past sunset and provide a focal point for the evening. The solar panel works well and the thing lasts forever!
A fun, light, little light to use anywhere.
A friend bought a couple of these and used them on our last camp out together. I was impressed enough to head to REI and buy two of them for myself. While not exactly a flood light, a couple of these little inflatable solar lanterns give off enough light to sit at a picnic table after dark to eat and do clean up. One will light up your tent enough to allow you to move around, store stuff, and get settled in before lights out. Being solar powered is a plus, no batteries to fool with.
So Far So Good
Pros: cheap, light, easy to use, packs down, no batteries &/or extra weight Cons: hard to inflate & deflate, seems larger than it needs to be, hard to fit in small stuff sacks or ditty bags
Simple but awesome
I bought this as a stocking stuffer last Christmas, it seemed like a fun little gift but I didn't really know what to expect as far as performance. We have taken this thing backpacking and camping a couple times now and it is awesome. We usually leave it out for the day in the sun and while I haven't pushed the limits on charge/use time, with a day outside, we have been able to get several hours of light at night. The lights are really bright too, it's not wimpy!
Great lantern!
When I first saw this in the store I thought it was such an ingenious idea and almost bought it immediately, but I told myself I didnt need it right then and didnt get it. Went camping with a friend who had one a month later, and this thing rocked! It doesnt look like it will give much light, but it's perfect for a camp lantern. It's lightweight, packable, and solar powered. Such a great idea, and so easy to use. Would definitely recommend it to anyone!!!
Best lantern!
I absolutely love this lantern! It deflates to pack easily. It has three brightness settings and even on the lowest it puts out good light. We took it to Moab recently and it worked so well that we are getting at least one more. It is perfect for car camping and backpacking. The solar power makes it extremely practical. I can't recommend this lantern enough!
