I bought this chip for my Garmin GPS for a Wyoming backpacking trip I am taking. It is advertised to cover Wyoming, Montana and Idaho (as well as other states) but its coverage ends at the dakotas! No Wyoming, Montana or Idaho data at all!!! Sent it back.
Excellent Topo Maps
It's truly amazing that so much map information can be held on a tiny chip the size of a thumbnail and be carried with you anywhere. Covers my home state of South Dakota really nice and keeps me on trail. I highly recommend it.
Decent map, not great...
Decent map. The loss of detail is really the issue of the Garmin device Itself, rather than the map software. I think it’s time Garmin up their quality and produce a GPS with the screen resolution of a typical smart phone. I haven’t used the map software with a chip reader on a desk top or laptop computer.
Needs better quality control and/or updating.
Plotted two hiking day trips in the Black Hills South Dakota with this base map the first week I got it. Got several miles in and guess what - the planned return trail didn't exist!! Beware.
