The material and fit are great. Sadly, the material snags way too easily. I haven't even worn these a full day, and I've managed to get them snagged. I loved and would have preferred the Kuhl Splash roll up pants, but it looks like it's no longer offered at REI, so I figured I'd try the next similar thing. May be looking at returning these now, as they seem like they're just not going to hold up to my kind of adventures, unfortunately.
Just took these out on an 8 day backcountry pack trip in the desert. They were 100% on point. I love the fit, comfortable, stretchy but flattering. The drawcords hidden in the side pockets are totally innovative and make these completely multi-functional. The snap is strong and the internal drawcord was elastic so I could cinch them as my waistline and pack necessitated. The fabric held up beautifully after a week of kneeling to set up tents and prep food on rocky surfaces. I have also worn these pants at my professional office and felt they were perfectly appropriate. I am definitely going to order another pair.
I tried these on because my local REI didn't have my usual splash roll-ups in my size and was immediately taken by the softness of the fabric and flattering, sleeker fit. Like others, I haven't wanted to take them off since I got them. They're the first pair of hiking pants I've had that are so comfortable I don't notice them at all on long hikes. They're as comfy as pajama pants, but stylish enough to wear to an office. I also like that the length is so adjustable with the drawcord. I can wear them on a trail with very thin soled barefoot shoes without them dragging on the ground and then lengthen them a bit to wear with a thicker soled hiking or winter boot. Pretty much perfect pants.
I bought these pants for a three-day backpacking trip in the White Mountains. The drawstring waist saved the day after the pants stretched out a little bit. They looked great even after multiple days. The fabric was super soft and had the perfect amount of stretch. I would have left five stars if they had been more durable in the seat--I tore a small hole in the back sliding across a rock to sit. Shouldn't a "hiking" pant be able to withstand this? A little disappointed--especially after the price tag!
I have these pants in two colors and they are very nice and comfortable. At 5'5" 145 lbs. I am not a skinny barbie shape. Kuhl pants are usually a little tight in the waist for me even if they fit everywhere else. These are pretty much cut like that (for small waist) but there is just enough stretch in the material to fit without being tight. I have no use for the stretchy drawstring, it seems kind of useless to have both drawstring and belt loops anyway. I just pulled the string out and threw it away. I like the snap closure because I hate buttons. The snap seems to be secure and doesn't "pop" every time you bend over like some pants do. The opening at the bottom is just right without being too skinny. I also have no use for converting them to capri length but the material and fit was good so I bought them anyway.
I have these pants from several years ago and they are my traveling and hiking favorite. Kuhl took a really good hiking/street pant and ruined them. 1) The waist snap does not stay closed ever. The only thing holding the pants up is the inner tie. 2) Sliders at side of pants to shorten the legs are now so small I cannot grab them to adjust. Returned and trying another brand.
The pants are comfortable on trail but wrinkle easy. My pair was special ordered for inseam and realized after the fact they have small holes in the back of the leg area. Kuhl refuses to replace. Stated they had been burned. Pants hadn’t been around a campfire. First time wearing found the holes. My experience hasn’t been a good one.
I bought these since I have to protect my skin from the sun, but like the option of shortening to Capri length in the shade. These fit really well on me (feel the same as a pair of size 6 kuhl capris) and have a nice amount of stretch for playing with my kids and crouching down, without looking or getting baggy. I went biking with them and was able to pull the string to make it into capri length on the right leg with one hand as I was biking behind my kids. They're also nice-looking enough to wear around without looking like I'm about to set off on a hike the next minute.
I own 2 pair of these, size 4 and size 6. I am 5'8" ~133 lbs. I can fit the size 4, but I like the size 6 better as the waist isn't as tight. I wear these to work primarily, but find they are great for an after work hike (or even trail run!). I like the fit, flexibility, and versatility. I have worn them quite a bit for about 8 months now w/ no durability issues. Pockets fit my iPhone XR just fine.
So I only recently started wearing hiking pants (I am a huge fan of the yoga-type pants for hiking, but it’s getting colder, so...). The problem I have is that with pants like this, I’m looking for a boot cut type of hem, as opposed to a more fitted jogger-style hem. If the hem is too wide, as I hike, my boot will occasionally catch in the fabric as I’m stepping, causing me to trip. These pants are fitted enough (without being too fitted) that I don’t have that problem. They also are comfy while hiking...they do have a drawstring on the inside that helps tighten them so they don’t slide down as you walk, and they aren’t too tight in the hips/butt/crotch area. I will wait for them to stock more sizes so I can buy an additional color!
