I bought this bike on the recommendation of friends who know much more about mountain bikes than I. They both told me that for the money, this was a great bike. They were spot on. I took it immediately out on some great flow trails and it handled beautifully. It is nimble and stable over rocks and roots, uphill and down. It’s handled perfectly on gravel, loam and red clay. I can’t wait to take it out again this weekend!
Ordered one of these since the price and components were good, and I wanted to hop on the plus side bandwagon. Basically the only components that weren't downgraded from what's listed here was the fork, cockpit, and brakes. I got WTB tires instead of Nobby Nics (no biggee I guess since WTB has been upping their tire game) and Sun Rhingle wheels instead of Whiskey Co. Not awful at first glance. Then I noticed the downgraded drivetrain. Instead of the x1 rear mech, there's a GX, but the awful part is that I got NX sifters instead of GX zero loss sifters that are specified. I know stock changes. I know stuff goes out of stock. Changing one or two parts for convenience or availability happens. But having the heart of your drivetrain notably downgraded, along with such a huge piece such as wheels and tires? Inexcusable. The whole reason I bought this one over the current NX Timberjack was for pieces I didn't end up getting! It's almost out of stock so there's probably little point in sharing this experience, but take this as a cautionary tale how much your *specs are subject to change. I'm holding off on riding it until I make up my mind if I'll return it for the NX model.
