Great general purpose carabiner
This is my favorite general purpose carabiner. The basket is wide enough to easily accomodate an clove or munter hitch plus an extra strand of rope or a carabiner. It is wide enough to work well for blocking and tackling. It also works well with belay devices and mechanical ascenders. It is easy to manipulate with and without insulated gloves. I prefer to use other carabiners for belaying, but this is my preferred carabiner for attaching things to anchors and building rescue systems.
Best Offset-D Screw-Lock there is
I own a lot of lockers, and this is definitely my favorite for belaying with a GriGri. It's super light, the screw-lock mechanism is extremely smooth, and the red indicator makes for easy visual inspection. The offset D-shape makes it difficult to cross-load, which is great. I see a lot of folks with the twist-lock version of this (which is also a great carabiner), but I prefer screw-locks since they are easier to use and keep you from getting complacent about checking the lock. You really can't go wrong with Petzl carabiners, and this is no exception.
Perfect carabiner, wish REI still stocked it
This is the only locking d shape carabiner I use. Petzl screw gates are always the highest quality and the light weight combined with the versatile d shape makes this one of my main carabiners (the other being the attache).
Solid Locker!
Locking carabiners are all pretty much the same. I mean... A locker is a locker, right? Yes and no. The Petzl Sm'D Screw-Lock has one safety feature that other lockers don't. It has red paint underneath the screw portion of the gate. This allows to to visually determine whether the carabiner is locked or not. You see red- the biner is unlocked. You see only sliver- the biner is locked. It's a subtle feature, but one that is potentially life & limb saving!
Screw lock jammed on 1 of 2 carabiners
Bought 2 of these, had to return 1 because the screw lock kept jamming after it loaded with weight. The other was fine, though. So split the difference with 3 stars?
easy to open and close even for arthritis
I have arthritis and have a hard time with carabiners on my flare up days. I love this carabiner. Easy to use, great with a gri gri with a smooth transition. Bonus: I like the color:)
Great lightweight locker
This is a great lightweight locking carabiner. Great for hanging belay plates in guide mode, lanyards, rappel backups, pretty much anything. The red indicator is a nice safety feature, you can tell at a glance if it's locked or not. The twist lock version adds a nice safety margin, worth checking that out as well.
Solid & light
This screw lock is lightweight and a strong performer. The gate is smooth, the lock is knurled & easy to operate one-handed, and I appreciate the "red = danger" on the post that indicates appropriate closure. Not a new concept, just executed quite well... exactly what you expect from Petzl.
Great carabiner
Great carabiner for climbing, essentially any application related to climbing. Screw action is very smooth and had no issues. Note, Petzl biners have been known to seize/lock (mostly a problem with the Attache's), but can't really anticipate this. I didn't have any issues with the product.
Solid gear
Nice and lightweight. Screws down nice and secure even though mine has seen some abuse. I like that it has a visual lock indicator as well so that you can tell when it is properly locked and not just stuck, because some sand got in the threads or something.
