Our car camping tent was trashed so I bought this as a middle ground so we could use it for both car camping and backpacking trips since my husband and I are fairly tall and our dogs both weigh 120lbs +. I also wanted something fairly easy to set up as I’m new to backpacking and a little intimidated by tarp tents and trekking pole tents. I’ve used this once on a multi-day car camping trip. The set up was pretty simple and I was able to set it up and pack it up solo pretty easily. I slept in it with my two giant breed dogs with plenty of space to stretch out. It will be snug with my husband in there as well but not bad compared to most backpacking tents. Love how much you can see with the rain fly off on clear nights. So far I’m very happy with this tent and looking forward to using it on some backpacking trips in the future! My only cautionary note is that it is quite large/heavy so if you don’t absolutely need a lot of space I would size down for backpacking purposes.
Had it out in high winds with the guys lines all staked out and it held up great! It was 10 degrees warmer and no wind inside the tent. Very impressed! Nice large vestibule area. Plenty of room for gear and cooking.
I wanted to like this tent. And loved it for car camping as it is spacious and seems well designed EXCEPT for the poles. Unfortunately, the uni-pole system is made with incredibly weak metal that bends and cracks and breaks very easily under the slightest stress. I’ve camped thousands of nights in a variety of tents and never had poles snap so easily. It seems Marmot knows this defect and includes tent pole sleeves or splints to repair with initial purchase. But these splints won’t work with the Uni-pole system as they won’t get past the curved portion on the end of each of the 4 poles. One little crack in a pole and the entire uni-pole system is worthless. Now, the worst part. Marmot will not replace these parts and just wants to take up to 5 months to repair cracked poles. REI’s previous claim to stand by their products has been rescinded over the years and they disavow any responsibility. Definitely makes me rethink purchasing Marmot products and I have much less incentive to buy from REI as I had in the past.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Easy to put up and kept 2 adults and 1 child dry through 3 days of rain (with an extra tarp underneath). Love it!
I'm not typically one to write a review about anything but was extraordinary pleased with this purchase. I bought this a month ago and worked out perfectly for my most recent backpacking trip in Colorado. There was plenty of room for me, my son, nephew and brother in law (all 6' plus). It fit well in my Osprey pack, was light and very sturdy in some moderately high winds and rain. I did a ton of research prior to the purchase and am so thankful I did as it worked perfectly. This is my 2nd Marmot tent and will definitely purchase again in the future.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this tent about a month. I had done so much research on multiple different brands and types of tents and finally bit the bullet and bought it. Let me tell you how happy Iam with this tent. The first night my girlfriend and I stayed in it , it rained the entire night. We didnt get wet one bit. The following night it was so clear out and amazing to be able to take the fly off and have such an amazing view of the stars and sky it was unbelievable. Such a great tent. A little pricey but you pay for what you get. I hope this helps anyone else out looking for a semi lightweight tent with good waterproofing and PLENTY of room.
I bought this tent about a month ago, finally the snow line receded enough for us to camp in a good spot. I previously purchased the tungsten 2 man and it was perfect since then a great Pyrenees has joined the family and we needed to upgrade. This tent provided plenty of space four me, my wife and the the dogs. It even held up to them walking all over it, in every way imaginable. It had excellent ventilation, and was exactly what we needed.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 4p tent was great overall. We were mostly dry except where gear or body parts touched the tent body. We used the footprint and rain fly. We spent 4 days in a downpour, Angry at the weathermen for a not-so-accurate forecast. Plenty of room for shoes and packs in the vestibules although we used a separate tarp for gear. Was a bit tight with 4 air mattresses but we got it sorted. 3 plus a dog or gear would have been ideal or 4 ppl that are minimalistic. Night 3 it didn’t rain and everything stayed dry inside. Only used on one trip and the mud washed out upon return. Good as new. I think I will hit the floor seams with scotch guard before the next one. Easy set up and take down.
I like this tent. It has been though 6 inches of unexpected snow, high winds and desert downpours. I stayed dry... I devised a way for a one person setup that is much more efficient than the instructions, lol. I did rip a corner net seam, Marmot repaired it in three weeks for 30 bucks. For three season use it is fine. The foot print is a bonus and needed. I recommend this tent. The pic is from Hovenweep, chosen because I like it. I guess the image is to large.
I have the previous iteration of the 4p, and the current (orange) version of the 3p. I love the tent design, absolutely love it. But after relatively light use, the fly is getting faded and fragile on my 3p, and ripped to unusability in a thunderstorm on my 4p after only two years of light use. Consider getting a tent with a nylon fly instead, or get something with an extended warranty. I will not buy another Marmot, even though every other thing about the tent is great.
