Works under water, but will not charge afterwords.
It wasn't planned by my Petzl lamp went into a cave where it spent a long time under water. In fact, in went in and out of the water many times over the course of several hours. It was nobody's fault. The lamp worked just fine under water and the beam traveled better than I thought it would. The battery held its charge well under those conditions. I don't think the water hastened the discharge rate at all. But, the next day after it dried out, the battery would not take a charge. So, if you are wearing the Petzl lamp and you just have to go under, the light won't fail, but the battery may not ever charge up again. (The lamp, however, was fine.)
QC on batteries is terrible
Bought the Tikka Core 30th Anniversary (needed a headlamp and oooo pretty). Brought it home, charged battery with supplied cord. Took 3ish hours (per guide) and then green light! Installed battery and.....nothing. Pulled it out and battery was red! Charged it again, green, install and...nothing. Tried 3 AAA batteries and there was light. Charged CORE battery again and...same. Taking it back tomorrow. After reading the reviews it is definitely hit or miss. Disappointing since I climb with Petzl gear and it’s never failed me but to have so many bad batteries. FYI
Failed almost immediately
I bought the Zipka flashlight & this battery. I charged the battery & put it in the flashlight. The flashlight worked. I let it sit for about two weeks and tried again. The flashlight would not light, so I plugged the battery in to charge it again. The green light went on indicating it was fully charged, but the flashlight still didn't light. The flashlight works fine with the AAA batteries, but not with the Core battery. I was leaving the next week for a 3 week backpacking trip. I was very thankful that the failure didn't occur some night on the trail. I have seen some other reviews indicating early failures. One person said they were carrying two of these batteries as protection. This kind of failure is unacceptable in a product intended for camping or backpacking. Petzl needs to address this.
Check the tabs if you have a sudden malfunction
After recharge, tikka light suddenly did not work. Of course I found this in the dark. Fortunately somebody carried spare AAA which gave no problem. 10 hours later in good daylight, I discovered a tab In the lamp (minus side) can bend in to a position where it will work with AAA but not core.
Battery stopped working
I used this battery in my headlamp regularly but not more than a couple hours a month for a year. It stopped charging completely. I wrote to Petzl and they said the battery should last for 3 years. Petzl said I could send the battery in for warranty review but I also had to send in my headlamp (and pay for the shipping myself). I didn't want to lose my headlamp for who knows how long, so I am just recycling the battery and using rechargeable AAA batteries instead. I do not recommend any Petzl headlamp using this battery.
Buyer beware - Core battery didn't fit properly
The Core battery was a tad too large for the Petzl Actik headlamp, so while the battery compartment would snap closed, because of the battery being just a bit too large, the result was that there was a narrow gap on both sides, leaving the battery compartment and headlamp electronics exposed to rain and dust. I would not trust this battery/headlamp combo. It's possible the Core would fit OK into other Petzl headlamp models, I did not test others. I went back to REI, exchanged my Actik for another Actik, discovered it had the same issue, and disgusted with Petzl's carelessness I returned both and bought a Black Diamond headlamp.
Weight-saving and convenient
I have been using this in my Zipka headlamp for months now. I used to use AAAs in the headlamp and bring three more as spares, but now I can save weight both in the headlamp and by not needing spares since I can charge this from the battery pack I use for my phone (and with the same cable). I have actually yet to deplete it all the way on a trip, the longest of which has been about a week so far. I have not had any problems with this one, but I feel as though I've already gotten my money's worth out of it and would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Stopped holding a charge after a year.
I've had this battery for about 15 months. I've only used it a few times, otherwise it's been in a case. I noticed it wasn't holding a charger a few months ago, but would be OK if I charged it the night before. Now it won't hold a charge at all. Such a bummer. I wish I would have used it more so I would have noticed it was faulty and returned it.
What a cool product!
Petzl says these will last approximately 900 AAA batteries which is what sold me. I usually take an extra battery that I use to charge my phone which I can also use to recharge this as well; now I no longer have to carry extra AAA batteries when I backpack. Thanks for making such a cool, useful product.
Stopped Charging
Only lasted one year then stopped charging even though there was no damage to the battery. AAA batteries are way cheaper if its only going to last one year. Even contacted Petzl directly and they said I had to pay to ship it back (about $10) and even then couldn't guarantee it would be replaced. Very disappointing from a brand that says it cares about quality.
