Great Electrolyte Mix
Good product, has four different electrolytes instead of just one or two. Also it has much less sugar and a more mild taste than a popular brand whose name might or might not rhyme with tater blade. This makes it much easier on my stomach when using it on a hot day and/or for more strenuous activities. Grape is the strongest flavor, followed by Fruit Punch. The Citrus flavor is extremely mild. I haven't tried Lemon. I think grape probably tastes the best, but for its intended use I prefer fruit punch for the more mild flavor. Another plus to this product is that I have no problem rinsing it completely out of my hydration resevoir.

Zesty Orange claims bottles forever!
I personally liked this flavor best, but it permanently ruined a $10 no-odor-no-taste water bottle. It not only stained it orange, it left a permanent orange odor as well. Nothing I tried removed it completely (though isopropanol removed some). None of the other flavors did this, only Zesty Orange. I had bought the smaller 4-serving packets of each flavor, intending to buy the 80-serving container of whichever I liked best; I still bought the large container, but I was forced to choose one of the non-staining flavors that wasn't really my preference. I contacted Gookinaid about the staining, and they acknowledged the problem, were aware of it and apologized, but refused to reimburse me for the ruined bottle. I was told that the problem was the beta carotene they had added to it FOR COLORING. I would have been more understanding if they had placed a clearly worded caution on the package, but they failed to do even that in spite of being aware of it. Fortunately REI was understanding instead, and replaced the specific bottle (that I had bought there). Thank goodness I didn't try this out in my water bladder. You've been warned: be prepared to dedicate whatever (plastic) container you put the Zesty Orange flavor in to the exclusive use of it.

Received a brick in the mail.

Arrived hard as a brick. Contacted VITALYTE support never receiced a response back. Used a blender to mix it. Appeared product was in the way of a proper factory seal.

Try it, you'll like it!

Gookinaide, Hydralyte, Vitalyte....WHATEVER it is called....it is great stuff! My marathon training group used this a few years ago- and by chance I tried it one day. Ever since, I stock up every time I'm in REI. SO much better than G**aide, probably more akin to their endurance blend. Citrus/orange flavors are light and easy when you just can't stand one more sweet thing in your mouth on a long, hot day. Perfect the day-after major training or events to restore your energy. I read on their web page about drining it when you have a cold or flu and now I do that too! I think my recovery time has significantly decreased. I wish REI didn't always hide this stuff on the bottom shelf!

Not for endurance rides (for me)

Many people have different expectations and results when it comes to sports nutrition, so take this (as any other review) with a grain of electrolytes. I see this as kind of a bargain hydration mix. I've found it works well for short rides under two hours. But once I get into rides of 2.5 hours and more, this just isn't supplying the quantity of electrolytes my body needs. I bought this to try out as I couldn't find EFS anywhere in this COVID world. Taste is OK; would prefer sweeter, but I haven't suffered any stomach issues either with this. No issues with discoloring water bottles as some have noted (older reviews).

best wet thing since beer

Best overall electrolyte drink out there, in my experience. I've been using it for years now. The price is less than half of some other drink powders. Clean and crisp (and desireable!) flavors. I most recommend the cool citrus and lemonade flavors - they are the easiest to drink consistently and long-term if you use drink mixes often. While some drink mixes advertise their lack of sugar (and calories), I'm a fan of the moderately sweet taste and the little sugar bump it gives during an adventure. Great performance for workout recovery. Works just as well for alpine climbing as for a hangover, too.

We have been using Vitalyte for the last 35 years

My wife & I, we started drinking Gookinaid ,35 years ago before the name changed to Vitalyte Electrolyte. We found the drink powder during a visit to a health food store, near Lake Couer d'Alene in Idaho. We are long time residents of Salt Lake City and were on a cycling trip for a ride around the lake and up into the mountains that week. That's when we first found the drink. For 35 years, it has been our preferred exercise drink. It has helped me exercise & I am now 84 years old and have used it ever since. I currently have three bags in our kitchen cabinets. Don't get lost without it

This is the right stuff - forget the ****aids and the other weird colored stuff. Hydralyte gives you the right amount of potassium, sodium and sugars to keep going when you are working hard in a dry environment. I have been using it for more than 15 years, from the Grand Canyon to peaks in the Rockies to the Sonoara desert and nothing is better. As with any other sugar-containing drink, make sure you sanitize your equipment as soon as possible after use - a touch of bleach or strong hydrogen peroxide solution does the trick.

Best hydration formula I've used.

This is the best hydration drink I've used. When I'm thirsty after a hard workout or race, nothing tastes better. Other sports drinks I've tried taste sickly sweet after a long hard run. I tend to trust my body, and I think that means something. Vitalyte is designed for performance, not as a soft drink. I also use it for another purpose. A few years ago, I caught a bad virus and couldn't eat anything for three days straight. Vitalyte was the only thing my stomach could handle, and it got me through. Ever since, I use it to stay hydrated when I get sick.

taste review

I have now tried three of these and hope that my taste testings can help others. So far I've only tried watermelon, grape, and lemon. these are all so delicious I don't think I will branch out and try the other flavors, especially since I don't like fruit punch. all three are delicious and here is how I would explain the flavors: Watermelon tastes great, reminds me almost identically to baby bottle pop's watermelon powder. grape is also great and is pretty similar to other grape drinks you might get, but not super artificial. the lemon reminds me more of lemonade rather than a lemon or lemon/lime Gatorade, but still tasty. hope these can help inform potential buyers! Vitalyte is a great electrolytes option for people who want to get the most bang for their buck

Replenishes quickly

I have been using Vitalyte for several years now and it is the best electrolyte that I have ever used. I am in Arizona and do desert hikes in the summer when the temps are at or near 110. I use it during my hikes and also afterwards. It replenishes extremely fast and is easy on the stomach. It really helps to prevent cramping. I highly recommend this product. I do wish that REI carried this in store but if not I hope they continue to carry it online.
