Solid Dynamic Bike
Have had my CTY 2.1 for a couple years now and really appreciate where all I can take it. I've tossed a basket on there for casual grocery store runs, hit up longer bike trails for 2 hours at a time, and even had it on some easy trails and it's always a comfortable ride. Shifting is always pretty smooth, the tires have held up this entire time, and I've managed to get away with routine maintenance/tune-ups once a year. I've had a road bike and mountain bike over the past couple years as well but still feel validated with dropping both of those to get this bike instead since it meets all the needs I have and helps me save space.
Fantastic Bike All Around - Staff at REI Superb!
This is the first bike I've owned in 15 years, so I did my research by test riding several other bikes, including the comparable Treks and Ghost. This bike, from the moment I sat on it and pedaled, far outdid the others in comfort, start up speed/ease, shifting, and overall ride. I purchased it on Thursday and my first ride in 15 years was 30 miles on the C&O towpath, mostly dirt and packed travel. The bike was a blast to ride and shockingly comfortable. It handled the off-road just fine, although don't confuse it with a mountain bike! One huge consideration is the fact that it's from REI. The staff was courteous, patient, and very helpful through the entire process. When I first came to test ride, I had no idea what was out there. The staff member spent nearly an hour going over various options, without trying to pressure a sale. They require a test ride for every purchase, which is well worth the time. One employee even let me measure the bike so that I could build a rack for it a week before purchase. Upon purchase, they were so professional. I feel confident knowing that the staff will be there for me through the life of the bike. As far as the actual bike, here's the breakdown: Looks - It's a gorgeous bike! Shifting - Very well thought out as far as the ergonomics, shifts extremely smoothly, and the view of which gear you're in is helpful (some bikes don't show you the gear). Seat - So comfortable. No pain after 30 miles. Tires - Held up to a lot more than I expected, great all-around. Speed - very fast for the weight and has good "pick-up" for lack of a better term. Starts very quickly and gets moving really well. Overall - This is an absolutely awesome bike, and for its price, cannot be beat. Highly, highly recommended.
wheelie machine
if you're tryna rip some fat dank wheelies, then stop right here, because this is the one. I just can't seem to keep that front wheel down no matter how hard i try. Seat is super comfy, and the brakes feel fantastic and provide phenomenal stopping power with little to no effort, yielding plenty of confidence to really push your boundaries in the urban streets. My only complaint is that the frame paint seems to chip off rather easily, so I knocked one star off.
Great frame and gearing
After riding with a cheap off-road mountain bike, I invested a little more, still choosing the Co-op 2.1 instead of the more expensive 2.3. The difference from the mountain bike is like night and day. This still isn't the lightest bike frame but it's well-sized (available in three sizes) and comes with good parts. I can ride farther and have more fun with this bike. Changing gears is fast and sure. The display for gears is easy-to-read without looking away from the road too long. The bike has some customizations that can tune its fit for the rider. I added a bike computer for about $50 REI sells to keep track of my workouts as well.
All around great bike.
This is my second CTY 2.1. I turned the first one over to a friend after touring for a while. REI store bike service was great ... always willing to have a look or do a quick tuneup. Can't wait for stores to open again!
At 73 still peddling!
First bike in about 10 years. Starting over again at 73 and this bike fits the bill! Also the budget.
The Best Hybrid Bike
I learned about the CTY 2.1 bike a month ago, when I developed an interest in cycling & started an online research for the best hybrid/recreational bike. It caught my attention immediately & I was waiting for this bike to be back in stock. In the meanwhile, I looked at other models like Specialized, Cannondale but I wasn't completely satisfied with any of those bikes. I was waiting with a bated breath for a week, to get a 'ready for pick up' on my order of CTY 2.1 & finally when I picked it up from REI store, I fell in love. This is the most gorgeous bike I've ever seen/rode. Everything about this bike is top notch. All shimano components, hydraulic disc brakes, feather soft seat, decent suspension & super smooth gear shift. You'll never regret purchasing this bike. This is a keeper & hands down, the best hybrid bike.
I love this bike!!
If I could only have one bicycle for the rest of my life, this would be it. It rides like a dream on sidewalk, gravel, or roads. It's also pretty darn fast, especially considering its weight. I actually passed a guy on a road bike the other day with it! I've had a comparable Trek hybrid bike and a much pricier Cannondale road bike before this bike, and both of them are inferior products. Go REI!!
Great Bike
This is a great bike. Shifts and brakes really smoothly, responsive, does well on paved or dirt roads. I like that the sidewalls of the tires are reflective as well as some of the frame. The grips are nice and comfortable. Ps..........I tried the 2.2 as well but liked the 2.1 better.
Good well-rounded bike
I've had the bike for two months and put a lot of miles on it. It's my first nice bike and I'vre really enjoyed it. I like that it has mounts for a rack and fenders. I like the rapid fire shifting. I like that the sidewall of the tires and paint are highly reflective. However, I had to upgrade the pedals very quickly. The stock ones don't cut it when your feet get wet or muddy. My feet were constantly slipping off. The gears are starting to get a bit noisy, and I've already had it in for a tune-up. Finally, the paint is not very durable at all. It's already started chipping from putting it in a bike rack. The paint on my kid's huffy hold up better.
