I love my bike!

I decided to grow up and get a bike with gears. I've been a beach cruiser kind of gas up to this point. I spent over an hour with Frank (after much much online research ahead of time) in the store choosing just right bike for my needs. This was it, and I couldn't be happier. The gears are great and easy to switch, the disc brakes are a dream, and the pedals can be switched to clips someday very easily if I choose to go that route. Value for money is excellent with this bike...everything is included that you need to ride it. No extra pedal/gear system/brake purchase necessary. Of course you'll need a helmet and maybe a water bottle and rack for it, but the essentials are all on the bike. You don't get that with the non co-op varieties available. I also like that you can take your bike in for "check ups" after riding it a while. I haven't done that yet, but I plan on it.

Great for casual cycling, fitness, commuting, etc.

I got this to be an all-around sort of "jack of all trades" bike, as it's nice to be able to simply hop on a bike and go without needing to kit up in shorts, shoes, jersey, etc. I'm really impressed with how responsive it is in terms of both acceleration and handling. It's not the lightest around, but that fact hardly seems to be noticeable, as it's not hard to quickly get up to speed and zip around the city streets. It rides fairly smoothly as well, with the old common complaint about aluminum bikes feeling "harsh" having no place on a ride with the CTY 1.2. It's just plain fast 'n' fun! As far as the components go, I wasn't expecting to like the stock pedals much, but I'm actually rather fond of how wide and grippy they are. The same goes for the saddle, as it's really more comfortable than I'd anticipated (though the little built-in tail light really isn't bright enough to get past "gimmick" status). The drivetrain components are all terrific, of course, as I've never had anything but positive experiences with Shimano Deore. It's really top-performing stuff, and tends to hold up for a long time! The hydraulic disc brakes are also really good, offering solid, reliable stopping power right out of the gate (i.e., not much "burn-in" time needed). The frame build is simply gorgeous, with the matte metallic black/charcoal color giving the bike a very classy look overall. The highlights are tasteful, and all the reflective decals are a nice touch! I've not ridden on Kenda tires before, but they seem to roll really well, and I'm glad to know that they've got some good puncture protection built in. I also appreciate the reflective sidewalls. I've been having fun figuring out what accessories and add-ons to put on this bike to really "customize" it and make it my own! If I have any complaints about it, they'd all be fairly minor. I'm not sold on the grips, for example. They're pretty comfy, but the built-in bar ends would be more useful to me if it was possible to adust the angle of them separately from the angle of the grip itself (as it is, they point down too low for my liking). The way the fender eyelets are positioned, as well, makes it challenging to mount standard bike fenders on this frame. The front eyelets are on the inside of the fork, and are higher up than on most bikes, meaning front fender struts will probably need to be cut. The rear, meanwhile, has only one eyelet for fenders and rack to share, but the fact that it's placed forward of the rear dropout means that a rear fender strut may not be long enough for the fender to clear the tire (as I've recently discovered while trying to install some). Another issue I found was that a basic center-mounted kickstand had to be cut about a half-inch shorter in order to fit my large size frame properly. Beyond that, my bike also arrived with some weird greasy substance on parts of the frame, and after cleaning it off, there are a few odd shiny spots left behind where the greasy stuff was that stand out in an ugly way against the matte finish. Fortunately, they're small and hard to notice. In general, it's overall an awesome bike with some great components for a reasonable price!

Great buy for the componets and ride

I did a fair amount of research before I purchased this hybrid. I already have an F5 Cannondale for mountain biking and I had a lot of trouble keeping up with a group of folks I ride with on the nicer, flatter trails. I wanted to stay with the Cannondale line but after some extensive research and a budget I found out quickly I was going to have to sacrifice weight and options in order to purchase a Cannondale under $1000. The Co-op 1.2 CTY offers all the luxuries of the more costly bikes for a very fair price. I also researched Trek, Fuji and Specialized. All nice bikes, but they were always missing one or two features the Co-op was equipped with at the same price. Highlights: 25lbs with Aluminum frame and fork, special handle grips, 27 gears and hydraulic disc brakes. On my very first ride I knew I had made an awesome choice. I would buy this bike again and again. I am 5'10" and the large fits me perfect! Hope this was helpful.

It's a greyhound!

I am very pleased with this bike. It makes my smooth-tired mountain bike seem like a clydesdale. When I compare the CTY 1.2 to a greyhound, I'm not thinking of a "dog bus" but instead I'm thinking of a sleek, light, efficient machine that is responsive and a pleasure to ride.

Great multi-purpose bike

I have had my CTY 1.2 for about three weeks and have put 200 miles on it. It has turned out to be a great all-around bike for daily riding. After a week with this bike, I sold my road bike, which was just not comfortable to ride, and too twitchy and delicate to be practical for use around the neighborhood with the kids. This has become my main bike for riding around town with the kids, taking lunch time rides at work, and longer weekend rides. Pros: - The frame geometry is very comfortable, without being as upright as a cruiser. The sloped top bar makes it easier to stand over than the hybrid bikes I tested from Specialized, Trek and Giant. I was initially concerned about the aluminum fork, but after a few 2 hour rides it really hasn't been an issue. The geometry also makes the bike very maneuverable, which is a plus on the multi-use trails around town. - The bike is a good over-all value for the level of components it has. - The bike is great on multiple surfaces. I have ridden it on asphalt, concrete (lots of seams), packed gravel, loose gravel and dirt, and it has performed well. It is ok for some light trail work , but it is not a mountain bike, so stay away from rock gardens, jumps, and drops. - I can just hop on the bike and go, without having to change into special shoes, shorts and jersey. The seat is very comfortable. This is extremely handy when I'm out with the kids. - The bike is durable, with sturdy components. I don't have to worry about the bike when the kids mess around with it. - Hydraulic brakes allow for great control and stopping power. I don't want to own another bike without them. - All of the reflective surfaces make the bike very visible in low light situations. I have added a head lamp and a more powerful tail light. Cons: - The hydraulic line for the front break is a bit short and rubs against the frame so much that it started to wear the paint off before the end of the first week. I put some tape on the frame, and will have an REI bike tech look at this when I go in for a checkup. (this is a very minor issue) - The bike is lighter than a steel framed bike, but heavy for an aluminum framed bike. This is an acceptable trade-off for the durability and price.

This is the bike for me

I have only been able to ride for a short while, but this is a Nice Ride. I have lower spine issues, and needed something I could 'flit" around on without causing severe issues. The bike is the answer, and is also light enough that I can remount it on the hanger in my shed without issue.

Great for commuting.

I bought this bike form my 40 mile commute on paved roads to and from work. It has performed extraordinarily well. I am 6'1" and decided to go with the "large" size; it's a comfortable fit. I get a lot of compliments on this bike, it looks a lot more expensive than it really is. I have large hands so I had to switch the hand grips to a bigger size from a third party. This bike is great to add on to. 5 stars.

This thing has been a joy to ride. It’s the first bike I’ve owned in a while but I get out on this all the time just because it’s so comfortable to ride. Great product, highly recommend for the casual biker.
